WBB: Raritan Races Past Lackawanna, 87-62

The Falcons Held A Brief, Early Lead, But The #18 Lions Were Too Much For Lackawanna To Overcome

11/28/23

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The nationally ranked Raritan Valley CC Lions put three players in double-figures and nearly led wire-to-wire in an 87-62 defeat of Lackawanna College in Region XIX Division II women's basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

The Falcons (2-5, 0-2) took a very premature 3-0 lead, and led 5-2 just a few minutes in, but the #18 Lions (7-0, 2-0) surged ahead and led 25-15 after the end of the first quarter. Lackawanna, behind 14 first-half points from Desiree White (First Year; Carlisle, PA), closed the gap to 25-21, but that would be as close as the home team could get, as the hot-shooting visitors made 49% from the field in the first half, and shot 55% in the second half. Raritan outscored Lackawanna 31-to-11 on points off turnovers, forcing 24 turnovers from the Falcons. Lackawanna shot 34% for the game, but was 6-for-25 from three-point range, and was burned numerous times on fast-break points from turnovers forced by the Lions.

White led the Falcons with 19 points, while E'Ternity Aiken (First Year; Wilkes-Barre, PA) added 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jayla South (First Year; Long Pond, PA) came off the bench to score ten points for the Falcons, while Zaliyah Small (First Year; Scranton, PA) added seven points as a sub for the Falcons.

Lucia Noin led all scorers with 30 points and eleven rebounds, as well as six assists, while Vega Gil added 29 points, eleven assists, and seven rebounds. Freya Rauschenfels added eleven points and six boards.

Lackawanna is back in action on Sunday, December 3rd, when the Falcons travel to take on Harcum College, currently the #11 team in the NJCAA Division II rankings. That game is the first of a doubleheader, and will tip at 2:00pm ET in Bryn Mawr.
