SCRANTON, Pa. -- In a game with a razor-thin margin, Lackawanna College fell just short, 70-67, to Raritan Valley CC on Tuesday evening in a Region XIX DII men's basketball contest at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
The Falcons (2-6, 0-2) held a 37-31 lead at the break, and traded the lead back-and-forth with the Lions (7-2, 1-1) late in the second half, but Raritan nudged in front, for good, on a jumper with just over four minutes to play that made it 62-61. The Falcons had it as close as 69-67 with about 20 seconds remaining, with possession, but missed a contested three-point shot with eight seconds to go. Raritan rebounded the miss, sank one of two free throws, and forced a running half-court three at the buzzer that was off the mark from Lackawanna.
Lackawanna wasted a game-high 32 points from
Aamir Mack (Sophomore; Atlantic City, NJ), who shot 15-for-18 from the floor. The Falcons were even with Raritan in shooting percentage, with both around 44% for the game, but the different was the three-point line, where Lackawanna made just 2-for-21, and Raritan sank six three-pointers.
Joey Chapman (Sophomore; Reading, PA) had eleven points and six assists, while
Niare Poplar (Sophomore; Philadelphia, PA) and
Mason Lawson (Sophomore; Boston, MA) each added six points.
Raritan was led by three players in double-figures, including 17 points from Alif Bass, and 16 points and 12 rebounds from Elisha White. Tim Godwin added 15 points off the bench.
The Falcons will look to rebound on Thursday, November 30
th, when they travel to Newark, DE to take on Delaware Tech CC. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm ET at the Stanton campus in the Region XIX DII match-up.
