SCRANTON, Pa. --Â The Union County College Owls proved to have just a little more firepower down the stretch than Lackawanna College, using an 11-0 run in the second half to fly past the Falcons for a 74-54 win on Tuesday night in Cranford, NJ.
Â
The Falcons (8-8, 4-3) battled with Union early, trading buckets with the Owls and twice overcoming double-digit deficits to close within two possessions. At the break, Lackawanna trailed Union 38-33.
Â
The Owls (16-4, 4-2) held a slender 42-38 margin near the midway portion of the third quarter, until they finally found their rhythm, slowly expanding the lead with clutch shooting and pressure defense. Lackawanna had no response, and an 11-0 run ballooned the lead out to 53-38. From there, Lackawanna could get no closer than 12 the rest of the way, as Union avenged its 20-point loss to Lackawanna earlier this year.
Gabrielle Jackson (Darby Twp, PA) had a team-high 16 points, while
Mahogony Collins (Harrisburg, PA) and
Nya Jackson (Harrisburg, PA) each had eight points for the Falcons.Â
Â
The loss drops the Falcons below the Owls in the Region XIX standings, placing Lackawanna in the third spot in the region. Lackawanna's road doesn't get any easier, when they host the #10 team in all of Division II, and the top team in the region, Harcum College, on Saturday at 12:00pm ET inside the Lackawanna College Student Union.
