SCRANTON, Pa. --Â In a game where the first team to hit a big run would be favored to win, the Monroe College Bronx Express did just that, outscoring a poor-shooting Lackawanna College 24-9 in the third quarter to run away with a 54-37 win on Saturday afternoon inside the Lackawanna College Student Union.
Â
The Falcons (6-5) had an abysmal shooting day, hitting on just 18% of their shots from the field and from three-point range. Monroe (11-5) wasn't much better, shooting 29% for the game, but 41.7% in the second half. After a brutal first quarter ended at 7-all, the Express opened up on a 10-2 run to push the lead to 17-9, before the Falcons closed on a brisk 7-0 run to get within 17-16 at the break.
Â
In the second half, the Monroe shots started falling, while the Falcons remained ice cold, and the Express opened on a 16-1 run over the first six minutes that all but put the game out of reach. Lackawanna had things within as close as 12 with less than two minutes to play, but the Falcons just couldn't get their offense on track.
