About The Falcons
Lackawanna College (3-0-0) is off to its best start in program history, having won three games in a row for the first time, ever. The Falcons took a hard-earned 2-1 win on the road in their last game at CCBC Catonsville this past Saturday. In that game, Lackawanna fell behind in the seventh minute, but got back to even just a few minutes later thanks to
Ahmed Kaid (Staten Island, NY). About 25 minutes later, still in the first half, Lackawanna grabbed the lead on a bending free kick from the left side by
Kevin Andrade (Scranton, PA), and the Falcons would hold on from there. You can read the game recap
HERE.
The Falcons are 2-0 in Region 19 contests so far this season, and are averaging just over 19 shots per game. As a team, Lackawanna is dominant in possession, with a 27-to-2 advantage in corners on the year, and a 58-to-17 advantage in total shots.
Robert Jarvis Humphreys (Soufriere, Dominica) leads the team with five goals on the season, three coming in a first-half hat-trick performance against Delaware County CC. Humphreys has 22 shots on the year.
Andrade has a pair of goals this year, as well as an assist. Kaid,
Anthony D'Angelis (Holtsville, NY), and
Darlyn Uceta (Philadelphia, PA) all have scored a goal for the Falcons this year. Kaid is tied with
Jose Gonzalez (Scranton, PA) for the team lead in assists this season with two, apiece.
Jahdale Givans (Bronx, NY) is the main stopper at the back, with a clean sheet in his first game, and eleven saves to his credit so far this season. Givans also has an assist, coming in the win against Delaware County CC.
The Falcons are coached by
Zachary Shiposh, in his first season with Lackawanna College. Shiposh, a Clarks Summit native, brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience from all over the world. Shiposh played at St. John's University in New York, gaining valuable high-level collegiate experience, and then transitioned into playing and coaching in soccer hotbeds like Brazil and Germany. He has several coaching certifications, and was the Falcon assistant in the spring 2022 semester before being elevated to head coach.
About The Opponents
Sussex County CC (0-3-0) comes into the game having dropped a 2-1 decision at home against Essex County College last Thursday. The goal scored against the Wolverines was the first goal of the year for the Skylanders, who were shut out 2-0 (Middlesex) and 5-0 (Raritan Valley) in their previous two games.
There are no statistics available for the first three games of the year for Sussex.
The head coach for Sussex County CC is Christian Castro, who, similar to his counterpart at Lackawanna College, was hired this spring. Castro was previously an assistant at Saint Elizabeth University for two seasons, where he was also the Head of Individual Development within the program. His support helped the Eagles achieve a winning season for the first time in program history, and pushed them into a CSAC semi-final appearance.
