Enid, OK -Â Saturday, the Lackawanna College Baseball team fell to Patrick Henry Community College in the NJCAA Division II World Series opening round. The Patriots shut out Lackawanna by a score of 7-0.
The teams engaged in a pitcher's battle over the game's first five and one-half innings. Lackawanna's starter Zach Klapak held Patrick Henry to an unearned run on four hits over five innings, while the Patriot's pitcher shut out the Falcons on one hit over six innings.
The contest's turning point took place in the bottom of the sixth when Patrick Henry scored six runs on a Graham Dalton RBI single, a Wild Pitch, Hunter Steele's two-run Double, and a fielder's choice.
The Falcons attempted to answer in the top of the seventh when they loaded the bases with one out on Quinn Hanafin's double, Colin Macko's base on balls, and Jensel Soto's single. Unfortunately, Lackawanna failed to make good on this opportunity and ended the frame without a run.
The Patriots ended the scoring in the eighth on a Sam Gallardo solo home run.
Offensively, Lackawanna had three hits, singles by Raymond Vorhees and Soto and a double by Hanafin.
On the mound, the Falcons used three pitchers. Zach Klapak suffered the loss, giving up six runs, one unearned, on seven hits while striking out three and walking three. Nick Termani followed with one and two-thirds innings of work, shutting out the Patriots on three hits, while Sam Daniels finished the contest relinquishing a solo run on one hit over an inning and one-third. Daniels struck out one.
Competing out of the loser's bracket, Lackawanna will play tomorrow when it faces the loser of today's game between Western Oklahoma State and Kirkwood. The game time is 11:00 AM EDT.
