Lackawanna's Season Comes to an End in NJCAA DII World Series

Box Score May 30, 2021

Enid, OK - Sunday, the Lackawanna College's baseball team saw their season come to an end in the elimination bracket of the NJCAA DII World Series by losing to Kirkwood Community College by a score of 8-3.

Much like Lackawanna's first-round contest, the game started as a pitcher's battle, with the Falcons being shut out in the first four innings while Kirkwood scored on a bases-loaded walk. In the fifth inning, that changed as Kirkwood scored five rounds in the top of the inning and Lackawanna answered with two in their half of the frame.  Kirkwood's five runs were all unearned with three runs scoring on a wild pitch and Lackawanna miscues.  The remaining two runs scoring on a Kyle Moeder single after the Falcons should have recorded the third out of the inning.

Lackawanna bounced back in the bottom of the fifth when Cody Fleischer scored on a Kirkwood error and Jensel Soto scored on a Jake Kelchner ground out.  In the sixth, the Falcons cut the Hawks lead to 6-3 when George Casto drove in Colin Macko in the bottom of the frame.  Unfortunately for Lackawanna Kirkwood ended the days scoring with Moeder's two-run homer in the top of the ninth giving Kirkland an 8-3 lead which also proved to be the final score.

The Lackawanna batters recorded six hits in the game.  A double by Colin Macko and Cody Fleischer and a base hit by Brandon Ernst , Quinn Hanafin, Casto and Soto.
Kyle Scott suffered the loss after giving up three runs, one of which was earned, on one hit while striking out six over four and one-third innings of work. Regrettably, Scott's control was off as he also issued nine base-on-balls.

The bullpen also had varying amounts of success. Kyle Borrello gave up three unearned runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning, while Justin Gohsler, Matt Stam, and Cameron King each pitched a hitless and scoreless inning. Jaden Tabler relinquished the game's final two runs on a walk and home run in his only inning of relief.

The Falcons finish the year with a record of 29-13 and Region 19 and East District Championships.
