Lackawanna Loses Two to Owls

March 14, 2021

Bel Air, MD - The Lackawanna College baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader with Harford Community College by scores of 7-2 and 14-13.
In game one of the twin-bill the Falcons started the game with a two-run first inning. Lackawanna scored on two-out singles by Ray Vorhees and Brandon Ernst and a double by Colin Macko drove in both those runners. Except for a single by German Vasquez in their third it would be the Falcons only hits and runs for the remainder of the game.
The Lackawanna pitching gave up one run in the bottom of the first, two in the third and four more in the fourth to see Harford claim a 7-2 win.  Zach Klapak suffered the loss.

In game two it appeared that Lackawanna was breezing to a victory when they completed the top of the sixth with an 8-2 lead. That all changed in the bottom of the inning when the Falcons pitching and defense gave up 11 runs, six of which were unearned.

Lackawanna wouldn't give up. In the top of the seventh with two outs the Falcons rallied for five runs to tie the game. Brandon Ernst had the inning's key hit a two-run single to tie the contest at 13-13.  Harford failed to score in the bottom of the seventh as did the Falcons in the top of the eighth.

The contest came to an abrupt end in the bottom of the eighth when Matt Rivera provided the Owls a walk-off home run.  Lackawanna's most productive hitters were Ray Vorhees with a single, double and RBI. Brandon Ernst added two singles and three runs batted in. John Helteban added two singles, double and scored a run and Quinn Hanafin added a single, three runs scored and two RBIs. The loss went to Kyle Borrello who relinquished only one hit in an inning and two-thirds.
