MBB: Lackawanna College Drops Road Contest At Delaware Tech, 77-69

Box Score 12/4/21

NEWARK, De. – The Lackawanna College Falcons men's basketball team fought and clawed back after falling behind, but couldn't quite overcome their turnovers and spotty shooting, as Delaware Technical Community College hit several free throws down the stretch to hang on for the win, 77-69, on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Tech's Stanton Campus.

Both teams struggled on offense in the first four minutes, but it was the Falcons (3-3) holding an early 5-2 advantage. Delaware Tech (5-6) eventually woke up, picking up buckets in transition and stretching the floor against the Falcons. The Terry Hawks led by as many as eight in the first half, and the lead at the break was 35-31 for Delaware Tech.

Lackawanna College would answer early in the second half with an 8-0 run to take the lead 39-35 in the first two minutes. The Falcons scored on their first four possessions while limiting Delaware Tech to a pair of turnovers and an empty possession. The Terry Hawks answered with a run of their own at 12-4, re-taking the lead at 47-43 with 13:00 minutes to play.

Both teams would trade the lead, and the game was tied with 6:23 to go at 57-all. From there, the Terry Hawks started to pull away, thanks in part to being in the foul bonus and sinking their free throws down the stretch. Lackawanna College had it within three at 64-61 with 2:40 to go, and they were down just five with 1:32 to play, but could never get closer than that the rest of the way, as the Falcons couldn't hit that critical shot to bring them within a possession, and the Terry Hawks kept making their free throws.

Lackawanna College is home in their next game on Tuesday, December 7th, when they host Raritan Valley Community College at the Lackawanna Student Union, as part of a doubleheader with the women's squad. The men's game is set for a 7:00pm tip, and will be a part of a Christmas celebration in the final home doubleheader of the fall 2021 semester. Tickets will be on-sale at the door for $5 (adults) and $3 (students), while Lackawanna College students get in for free with their student ID. Fans are reminded of the Lackawanna College spectator policy for masking in the gym and facility at all times. Get more information HERE. The game will be streamed live on the Lackawanna College Falcons YouTube channel, with Steve Young handling the play-by-play, and Sports Information Director Tom Ferguson joining on color commentary.
