SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lackawanna College Men's Soccer team, after a mid-week postponement, will hit the pitch this Saturday, October 9th in West Windsor, NJ to take on Mercer County CC. The game is set for a 2:00pm start.
About The Falcons
Lackawanna College (1-2-1) comes into the match-up after grabbing their first win of the season, a 1-0 victory on the road against Hagerstown CC last Saturday 10/2. The Falcons got the match-winner in the 62
nd minute from
Ahmed Kaid, and held on to preserve the clean sheet and the win, the first for head coach
Joe Evans in his new role.
The top scorers for the Falcons are all tied with a goal apiece:

Noah Barton, and
Ahmed Kaid.
Amari Forbes has a pair of assists on the season to lead the Falcons in helpers.
Gerard Borosky continues to hold down the midfield for Lackawanna College, trying to spring runs from Kaid and Forbes up top. The defense is anchored by
Deshawn Patterson up the middle and
Mark Luyundi on the edges.
Matthew Pfohl is the main keeper for the Falcons. Pfohl has 22 saves on 31 shots faced, so far this season.
The Falcons are led by first-year head coach
Joe Evans, a West Scranton HS graduate who spent time at Penn State and the University of Scranton in his playing days. Evans got the job this past summer after several seasons as an assistant with both the men's and women's teams at Lackawanna College.
About The Opponents
The Vikings (3-5-0) enter the contest having won two of their last three, with a 5-0 win over Brookdale CC on Thursday, October 7
th as their most recent result. The Vikings also own a pair of narrow losses to Harcum College, who is undefeated on the season.
Mercer and Lackawanna College do not share a common opponent yet: The Vikings will play CCBC Catonsville on Sunday, October 17
th. Catonsville defeated Lackawanna College 5-0 in the first game of the season for the Falcons. Both Mercer and Lackawanna are the only Division II teams in Region XIX.
Filippo Dapelo is the team-leader with five goals on the season. Samuel Destine is second with three goals and an assist.
Raul Gamonal and Issac Perez split time at keeper, with each player starting a similar amount of games. Both Gamonal and Perez have save percentages hovering just under .700 on the season.
Head coach Widmarc Dalce enters his eighth season at MCCC. A Mercer County CC alumna, Dalce was a member of the 1996 national championship team for the Vikings in 1996. Dalce, a Haitian international, played on the Haitian Olympic National Team from 1991-1993. Dalce graduated from Mercer in 1998, and went on to an athletic career at American International College, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. Dalce had spent time coaching at Rider University as an assistant for the women's team, as well as the head soccer coach at Allentown High School. He's also been a fixture in local soccer, coaching U16 and U18 leagues around Mercer County. Dalce was hired at Mercer County CC in 2012.
