SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lackawanna College Men's Soccer team gets back to work this Saturday October 2
nd when the Falcons travel to take on the Hagerstown Community College Hawks in Hagerstown, MD at 2:00pm.
About The Falcons
Lackawanna College (0-2-1) enters the game after an extended break due to games being postponed because of weather. The last time the Falcons were on the field was September 18
th in their narrow loss to Northampton on the road. There, the Falcons fell behind early, but managed to equalize late in the first half, only to give up the game-winner in the 86
th minute.
The top scorers for the Falcons are
Samuel Acosta and
Noah Barton, who have each scored a goal apiece for Lackawanna College.
Gerard Borosky continues to hold down the midfield for the Falcons, trying to spring runs from
Ahmed Kaid and
Amari Forbes up top. The defense is anchored by
Deshawn Patterson and
Mark Luyundi up the middle.
Matthew Pfohl is the main keeper for the Falcons. Pfohl has 18 saves on 27 shots faced, so far this season.
The Falcons are led by first-year head coach
Joe Evans, a West Scranton HS product still in search of his first win as a head coach. Evans got the job this past summer after several seasons as an assistant with both the men's and women's teams at Lackawanna College.
About The Opponents
The Hawks (2-7-0) are on the wrong-end of a six-game slide where they haven't scored, and surrendered 29 goals to their opposition. In there are a pair of games where the Hawks lost 1-0, including an OT loss to Anne Arundel CC. The Hawks lost 1-0 in their last game, this past Thursday at College of Southern Maryland, after Southern scored just past the hour mark, and held on for the last 30 minutes.
Bryce Block is the leading scorer for the Hawks with three goals and an assist so far this season. Xavier Meija is the midfielder pulling the strings for the Hawks with five assists so far this year. Danilo Melendez has two goals from his midfield spot.
Christian Blazes has been the main keeper for the Hawks, with 80 saves on the season, facing 115 shots on goal. Nick Profilio has also seen time in between the pipes.
The head coach for Hagerstown CC is CJ Trammell, who has spent time as an assistant coach for the Hawks before taking over as head coach. Trammell, a Waynesburg University graduate, played a season with Hagerstown before moving on to Waynesburg, and was part of a Hawks soccer team that went 6-0 to start the year, and earned a #17 national ranking from the NSCAA.
