MSOC: Falcons Travel To Take On #11 Harcum

10/12/21

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lackawanna College Men's Soccer team hits the road once again for what could possibly be their regular season finale, when they travel to southeastern PA to take on the nationally-ranked Harcum College Bears at 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 13th at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken.

About The Falcons
Lackawanna College (1-3-1) enters the match after dropping a 6-1 decision at Mercer County CC in New Jersey this past Saturday. The Falcons got their lone goal from Ahmed Kaid, his second goal of the year.

Kaid is now the team-leader with his two goals for the year. Two other players (Samuel Acosta and Noah Barton) each have a goal apiece. Amari Forbes has a pair of assists on the season to lead the Falcons in helpers. Gerard Borosky continues to hold down the midfield for Lackawanna College, trying to spring runs from Kaid and Forbes up top. The defense is anchored by Deshawn Patterson up the middle and Mark Luyundi on the edges.

Matthew Pfohl is the main keeper for the Falcons. Pfohl has close to 30 saves so far this season.

The Falcons are led by first-year head coach Joe Evans, a West Scranton HS graduate who spent time at Penn State and the University of Scranton in his playing days. Evans got the job this past summer after several seasons as an assistant with both the men's and women's teams at Lackawanna College.

About The Opponents
The Bears (8-0-0) are ranked #11 this week in the NJCAA Division I men's soccer polls, and enter the contest undefeated on the season. Harcum, a spring 2021 national semi-finalist, has a +29 goal differential at 32-3, and won 2-0 over Mercer County in their last game on October 5th.

As far as common opponents, the Falcons share three, including Mercer County. Harcum also beat CCBC Catonsville 3-0 on 9/18 (Lackawanna lost 5-0 to the Cardinals to open the season), and the Bears beat Hagerstown 8-0 on 9/7 (Lackawanna's lone win came at Hagerstown, 1-0, on 10/2).

The Bears are led by Lorenzo Ferrari, Ned Lewis, Santiago Linares, and Oscar Tenorio, who all have four goals scored, apiece, so far this year. Harcum has eleven players who have scored a goal on the year, providing a balanced offensive attack. Defensively, Michel Weber and Tobias Chileff have both spent time in goal, though Weber has been the main starter. Between the both of them, opponents have only scored three times this year.

David Hughes is the man in charge at Harcum. The Scottish native guided the Bears to an upset of Monroe last spring to capture the District championship, and advancing them into the NJCAA Division I tournament, where the made it to the semi-finals before bowing out.

Wednesday's game is set for a 1:00pm kick at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken.
