Box Score Bryn Mawr, PA – The Lackawanna College Women's Basketball Team hit the road for the second time this week, as they traveled down I-476 to Bryn Mawr, PA, to face Harcum College. This was another critical Region XIX match-up for both teams, as the Lady Falcons looked to keep their hold on the top of the rankings, while the Lady Bears were looking to keep a firm hold on the 3
rd place slot. Harcum had just come off of an upset over the previous #1 team, Union County, and they were looking to pull off another upset against Lackawanna.
The Lady Falcons came out in the first quarter and quickly erased any thoughts of an upset that the Lady Bears would have.
Kyla Smith continued her consistent play by knocking down two 3-pointers and a 2 point FG.
Briaunna McCullough also helped contribute to the fast start by hitting two FG's and a 3-pointer of her own. While Smith and McCullough got the scoring going for Lackawanna,
Ciaira Loyd ran the offense, finding her teammates for a number of scoring opportunities.
Keyanah Price,
Jamie Brann and
Kiana Williams scored 6 points between them and Loyd would also add 4 points, to give the Lady Falcons a 28-6 lead, as the quarter ended.
In the second quarter, Harcum settled things down and kept the quarter close. However, Lackawanna had an answer for whatever the Lady Bears threw at them.
Miliesha Troche and
Ciaira Loyd would each connect on a 3-pointer, while
Briaunna McCullough would add a FG.
Jazmin Wright came off the bench and gave the Lady Falcons solid minutes, while also adding a FG of her own. As the half ended, Lackawanna enjoyed a 42-18 lead headed into the locker room.
The third quarter saw
Kyla Smith and
Ciaira Loyd take control of the game. Loyd found her stroke as she connected on two 3-pointers and a FG, while Smith was consistent from the field, scoring 6 points in the quarter.
Keyanah Price and
Briaunna McCullough also were able to connect on FG's to give the Lady Falcons a 63-27 lead, heading into the final quarter.
With the big lead to start the fourth quarter, Lackawanna stayed with their game plan and continued to play pressure defense, while also creating opportunities for points.
Briaunna McCullough added 4 points in the quarter, while
Ciaira Loyd and
Jayla Lewis each scored a FG and a free throw, to give the Lady Falcons a commanding lead.
Kyla Smith and
Keyanah Price finished out the quarter with 2 points apiece, to give the Lady Falcons a 77-37 victory.
The win improves Lackawanna to 19-3 on the season and keeps them in sole possession of 1
st place in Region XIX, with a 10-1 record.
Ciaira Loyd led all scorers with 20 points, followed by
Briaunna McCullough, with 16 points. McCullough also had 15 rebounds on the night, while
Kiana Williams grabbed a total of 10. The Lady Falcons return home to the Historic Student Union, this Saturday February 8
th, when they host County College of Morris in another Region XIX match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
