Box Score Newtown, PA – The Lackawanna College Women's Basketball Team was back on the road, as they traveled to Newtown, PA Tuesday night, for a Region XIX match-up with Bucks County Community College. This past Saturday, the Lady Falcons won their 9
th straight game and, on Tuesday, they were looking to remain at the top of the Region XIX standings. Coach Whittington would look to her sophomores' leadership to get past Bucks County and extend their winning streak.
Kyla Smith wasted no time getting Lackawanna going in the first quarter, as she dominated on the offensive side of the ball. After connecting on a 3-pointer, Smith rattled off 17 total points in the quarter, which included another 3, 5 FG's and a free throw. Her effort set the tone for the rest of her teammates, as
Miliesha Troche and
Briaunna McCullough both connected from behind the 3-point line, while each added another 2-point FG, for a total of 5 points apiece.
The second quarter saw Troche continue her success behind the 3-point line, when she connected on her second 3 of the game.
Alayah Cowan came off the bench and, once again, showed that she will take advantage of every second she is in the game. Cowan would lead the Lady Falcons, in the quarter, with 6 total points, followed by
Kiana Williams who added 5 points, which included a 3-pointer. Their defense limited the Lady Centurions to almost no 2
nd chance opportunities and, as the half came to an end, Lackawanna would go into the locker room leading Bucks County, 51-14.
As the third quarter began, the Lady Falcons continued to dominate on the offensive side of the ball.
Miliesha Troche hit another 3-pointer and
Ciaira Loyd added one of her own.
Kiana Williams picked up where she left off in the second quarter, scoring 6 points and
Keyanah Price would add another 4 to allow Lackawanna to continue to pull away from Bucks County. As the quarter ended, the Lady Falcons found themselves with an 80-23 lead.
In the fourth and final quarter,
Briaunna McCullough, once again connected for a 3-pointer. The quarter also saw their key reserves contribute to the Lackawanna offense.
Jayla Lewis,
Alayah Cowan and
Daeja Cromartie all connected on FG's and
Kyla Smith was a perfect 2 for 2 from the free throw line, while also adding a FG of her own. As the game came to an end. the Lady Falcons would come away with a 98-39 win.
With the win, Lackawanna extends their winning streak to 10 in a row and moves to 18-3 overall on the season. They also move to 9-1 in Region XIX, to remain tied for first place. The Lady Falcons were led by
Kyla Smith with 21 points, followed by
Kiana Williams with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Ciaira Loyd had a game high 10 assists, while
Keyanah Price grabbed a total of 8 rebounds.
Allanah Bradford also came off the bench and had 7 assists in the victory. Lackawanna is on the road again Thursday night when they travel to Harcum College. The Lady Falcons defeated Harcum 82-62 back on January 21
st. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
