Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball remains undefeated at home with an 84-57 win over Monroe College.

Scranton, PA - After coming off a big win Thursday night over Union County College, the Lackawanna College Women's Basketball team was looking to avenge another of its 3 loses on the season, when they welcomed in Monroe College to the Historic Student Union, Saturday afternoon.  Back on November 9th, Monroe came back in the 4th quarter and beat the Lady Falcons by a score of 67-64.  Monroe was coming into the game on a 3 game win streak, while Lackawanna was putting its 6 game when streak on the line and looking to remain undefeated at home,

Both teams traded baskets the first 4 minutes of the first quarter.  However, after back-to-back 3-pointers by Briaunna McCullough and Ciaira Loyd, and a put back by Kiana Williams, the Lady Falcons took a 16-7 lead.  The Lady Mustangs, scored 5 straight points, to cut the lead to 16-12, but Ciaira Loyd answered back with two straight 3's, pushing the lead to double digits, 22-12.  After a free throw from Monroe, the quarter would end with Lackawanna leading, 22-13.

The second quarter started off the same way as the previous quarter ended, this time with Miliesha Troche hitting two 3-pointers in a row.  The next few possessions saw Kyla Smith score 7 of the next 9 points for the Lady Falcons, while Ciaira Loyd connected on another 3-pointer, to put Lackawanna up by 21 points.  Keyanah Price then grabbed a defesnive rebound and hit Ciaira Loyd on the fast break, who found Jazmin Wright for an easy 2.  That was the theme of the first half for the Lady Falcons, after every defensive rebound they would push the ball quickly up the court.  A Kiana Williams basket gave Lackawanna their largest lead of the game, 50-20. Monroe was able to score on their next few possessions, until Briaunna McCullough hit a shot, as the first half ended, to send the Lady Falcons into the locker room with a 54-27 lead.

Monroe came out of the locker room determined to get back into the game.  They would score the first 6 points of the third quarter, which forced Lackawanna to call a 30-second timeout.  The timeout proved to be beneficial, as the Lady Falcons settled down to score the next 6 straight points of their own.  Ciaira Loyd and Briaunna McCullough found their way to the basket on numerous possessions, with Loyd also converting on a 3-point play.  Kyla Smith added another basket and Kiana Williams converted on 2 free throws, to give Lackawanna a 67-43 lead, going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Ciaira Loyd, Keyanah Price and Briaunna McCullough all help increase the Lady Falcons' lead to 28 points.  Monroe started to find their way to the basket and eventually were able to trim the Lackawanna lead to 20.  However, the Lady Falcons' defensive pressure was too much for Monroe and they quickly shutdown any momentum the Lady Mustangs had.  Lackawanna began to slow things down when they had the ball on offense, which allowed time to run off the clock.  Coming off the bench, Alayah Cowan converted a jumper, followed by a Jazmin Wright basket, to give the Lady Falcons an 84-57 win.

With the win, Lackawwna won its 7th game in a row and remained undefeated at home.  Ciaria Loyd led all scorers with 29 points and was 4-6 from the 3-point line.  She also was a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line.  Briaunna McCullough added 21 points and also grabbed a team high 15 rebounds.  Kyla Smith contributed with 11 points, while Keyanah Price and Kiana Williams pulled down 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively.  The Lady Falcons will hit the road next Thursday, January 30th, when they travel to MIddletown, NY to face Orange County Community College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm
