Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Recovery Awareness Game sees Women's Basketball come away with an 82-62 win over Harcum College.

Scranton, PA – Tuesday night, in the Lackawanna College Historic Student Union, the Recovery Awareness Game took place when the Lady Falcons welcomed in the Lady Bears of Harcum College, for a Region XIX match-up.  Lackawanna College and Somebody's Someone, Inc. teamed up to help raise awareness of the tragic drug hold that has been on the community and to show families that recovery is possible.  Each time-out and quarter was dedicated to a victim of an overdose and the reality that we are all Somebody's Someone.

The action started fast, as the first quarter began, with both teams pushing it to the basket.  Harcum struck first with a quick 2-pointer, but Ciaira Loyd would answer with a 2 of her own, followed by another Lady Falcons basket by Kiana Williams.  After a defensive stop, Lackawanna's Kyla Smith drained a long 3-pointer to take a 7-2 lead.  Harcum answered with 4 straight points to trim the lead to 1, 7-6.   A free throw by Keyanah Price put the Lady Falcons back up by 2, 8-6 with 4:40 left in the quarter.  As she has done all season, Briaunna McCullough connected on a 3 to push the lead up to 11-6.  McCullough added another 2 when she split the defenders to drive to the basket.  Ciaira Loyd would get in on the 3-point action, connecting from the top of the key and then hit a short jumper to go up by 9, with a minute left.  The quarter would end with Lackawanna leading 20-10.

The second quarter saw both teams, once again pushing the ball quickly up the court.  Harcum would score the first 2 points of the quarter, to trim the Lady Falcons' lead to single digits, 20-12.  Briaunna McCullough answered the Lady Bears with a short jumper and Ciaira Loyd hit one her own, to force Harcum to call a time out at the 7:08 mark, with Lackawanna leading 24-12.  Two buckets under the basket by Kiana Williams and Keyanah Price stretched their lead to 16, 28-12.  Harcum answered with a 3, but Milieasha Troche got the ball and matched it for a 31-15 advantage.  The Lady Falcons continued to get the ball down low, with Kiana Williams laying it in and converting on a 3-point play.  That was followed by another Ciaira Loyd 3-pointer and Lackawanna saw themselves with their largest lead of the game, 37-17.  A Kyla Smith 3, increased the lead to 21, 40-19 and she quickly followed it with another one, to send Lackawanna into the locker room with a 43-21 halftime lead.

Briaunna McCullough picked up where the Lady Falcons left off, with a 3-pointer to start the third quarter.  Their defense also picked up where it left off by applying tight pressure on the Lady Bears.  Ciara Loyd took advantage of it by stealing the ball and taking in down for a short jumper, increasing the lead to 48-23.  Next, Keyanah Price took a pass from Ciaira Loyd for an easy lay-up and on their next possession, Kiana Williams grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up for 2, to push the lead to 52-23.  The defensive pressure continued and Kyla Smith took a turnover all the way down for an easy lay-up, which forced Harcum to call timeout.  Out of the timeout, Jamie Brann took a charge and the Lady Falcons were quickly back on offense.  Both teams began to press each other, which favored Lackawanna, as they were able to force a number of turnovers on the Lady Bears.  After three quarters of play, the Lady Falcons enjoyed a 62-33 lead.

Even though they were up by 29 points, Lackawanna did not let up the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter.  While Harcum was able to convert on a few baskets, the Lady Falcons had an answer, with Keyanah Price hitting 2 straight buckets, for a 68-40 lead.  Alayah Cowan took advantage of her playing time, forcing Harcum into a few turnover situations.  At the 5:41 mark of the quarter, the Lady Bears cut the lead to 22, 70-48.  However, after a Keyanah Price defensive rebound, Ciaira Loyd drained a 3 and Price connected on a 2, pushing the lead up to 75-48.  On the next possession, Kyla Smith hit a 3-pointer and suddenly, Lackawanna was up by 30 points.  Harcum would cut the lead by a few points, but when the horn sounded, the Lady Falcons came away with an 82-62 win.

With the win, Lackawanna moves to 13-3 on the season and holds sole possession of 2nd place in Region XIX, with a record of 6-1.  Kyla Smith led the Lady Falcons with 20 points and shot 4-9 from behind the 3-point line.  Ciaira Loyd was a perfect 3-3 in 3-pointers and finished with 17 points on the night.  Keyanah Price added 15 and Briaunna McCullough added 14, to round out the scorers in double digits.  Keyanah Price and Kiana Williams also combined for 22 of the 44 rebounds Lackawanna had in the game.  On Thursday night, they will host a pivotal Region XIX game when they welcome first place, Union County College to the Student Union.  Before the holidays, the Lady Falcons fell to Union County 73-60.  They will look to avenge that loss and move into a tie for first place.  The game will tip-off at 6:00pm and be broadcast live on the LCFAN Network.
