Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball earns 12th win of the season with 76-47 victory over ASA College (NY)

Scranton, PA – On Sunday afternoon, Lackawanna College and ASA College (NY) finally got to tip things off at the Historic Student Union.  The game had to be moved from Saturday to Sunday due to inclement weather and both sides were anxious to get on the court.  The Lady Falcons were coming off an impressive 101-69 win over Raritan Valley Community College and were finally ready to play at home, after being on the road for their last 7 games.

Briaunna McCullough got things started off for Lackawanna, scoring this first points of the game and for the next few minutes it would be a back and forth affair, with both teams trying to pull away from each other.  Each had a difficult time get converting from the field, and midway through the quarter the score was tied 8-8.  The Lady Falcons finally were able to seize the momentum when McCullough connected on a 3-pointer and Ciaira Loyd stole the ball for a fast break layup, putting Lackawanna up 13-8.  ASA answered with a basket of their own, to cut the lead to 13-10, but Keyanah Price got the ball down low and converted, to end the 1st quarter with a 15-10 lead.

The 2nd quarter saw the Lady Falcons press ASA and it immediately paid off when Ciaira Loyd got the ball and found Keyanah Price down low to increase the lead to 17-10.  That would be the strategy for Lackawanna the rest of the quarter, as they continued to get the ball down low and take advantage of Price's ability to get position.  She would score two more times to give the Lady Falcons their largest lead, so far, in the game 22-10.  ASA answered with 4 points of their own until Kyla Smith stole the ball and took it all the way for a fast break layup, to go up 24-14.  Jamie Brann added 2 free throws and Keyanah Price converted on a short jumper, to close out the half with a 29-19 lead.

Getting the ball down low to Keyanah Price continued to be Lackawanna's strategy and she would take full advantage of it.  Price scored 10 straight points to start the 3rd quarter and then stepped out to connect on a 3-pointer, which allowed the Lady Falcons to enjoy a 50-34, lead as the as the quarter ended.  Lackawanna also was able to limit any 2nd chance opportunities the Lady Avengers would have, which is why they were able to continue getting the ball down low.

In the 4th quarter, the Lady Falcons pulled away from ASA, when Briaunna McCullough was able to connect on a 3-pointer, followed by a 3 from Alayah Cowan.  That gave Lackawanna a 22-point lead, 62-40 and they never looked back.  It was a team effort as Kiana Williams, Alayah Cowan, Jamie Brann, Kyla Williams and Miliesha Troche all contributed on the both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.  As the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Falcons earned their 12th win of the season, defeating ASA College (NY), 76-47.

Keyanah Price led all scorers with 25 points and also grabbed a total of 13 rebounds, while Briaunna McCullough added 20 points and 9 rebounds.  In addition to their offensive output, the Lackawanna defense held ASA to 31% shooting from the field and did not allow them to convert on a 3-PT shot, holding them to 0-16 from behind the arc.  The Lady Falcons have a quick turnaround, as they return to action Tuesday night at the Student Union.  They will host Harcum College at 5:00pm in the Recovery Awareness Game, being put on by Lackawanna College and Somebody's Someone.
