Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball moves to 4-1 with a home win over Raritan Valley CC 83-55.

Scranton, PA – The #8 Lackawanna College Women's Basketball Team stepped foot on the floor of the Student Union for the first time this season, as they hosted Raritan Valley Community College for a Tuesday evening Region XIX match-up.  Both teams were on a 2 game winning streak as they entered the game and both were looking to continue their momentum.

Lackawanna College jumped out to an early 9-2 lead behind the shooting of Keyanah Price, who had 5 quick points in the first 6 minutes.  However, RVCC would go on a run and cut the Lady Falcons lead to 12-11, with 1:44 left in the 1st quarter.  Lackawanna settled down and closed the quarter by going on a 10-3 run, with Ciaira Loyd scoring 8 of those 10 points.  The Lady Falcons ended the 1st quarter with a 22-14 lead.

Both teams struggled to score in the first few minutes of the 2nd quarter, until Alayah Cowan hit a jumper to extend the Lackawanna lead to double digits, 24-14.  The Lady Lions would pull to within 4, 25-21, but that is as close as they could get.  Lackawanna got baskets from Jasmine Lewis, Kyla Smith and Briaunna McCullough to take control of the game and increase their lead to 13 points.  As the half came to an end, the Lady Falcons would take a 36-26 lead into the locker room.

The 3rd quarter saw Lackawanna's Keyanah Price find her rhythm.  She scored 6 of the Lady Falcons' first 8 points to increase the lead to 44-31.  RVCC's defense could not find an answer for Price as she would score a total of 17 of the Lady Falcons' 23 3rd quarter points.  The Lackawanna defense also played a dominant role in the quarter by smothering the RVCC offense.  This dominance allowed the Lady Falcons to increase their lead to 18 points, 59-41.

As the 4th quarter began, Lackawanna took complete control of the game, increasing their lead to 65-41, at the 9:11 mark.  The Lady Falcons' pressure was able to shut down RVCC's offense, as they were unable to get any second chance points.  Lackawanna's offense also continued to be too much for RVCC as baskets by Kiana Williams, Briaunna McCullough, Miliesha Troche, and Allanah Bradford helped push the lead to 81-53.  As the horn sounded, Lackawanna would move to 4-1, 2-0 on the season, with an 83-55 victory.

Keyanah Price led all scorers with 26 points, going 12-15 from the floor and 1-2 from the 3-point line.  Price also grabbed 11 rebounds and had 2 blocks.  Briaunna McCullough added 13 points, 7 rebounds and a game high 5 steals.  Kyla Smith and Ciaira Loyd added 12 and 11 points respectively, while Kiana Williams and Jasmine Lewis were dominant on the boards, with Williams grabbing 8 rebounds and Lewis grabbing 9.  As a team, Lackawanna out-rebounded RVCC by a 54-35 margin and their defense was able to record 13 steals against the Lady Lions.

Lackawanna College returns to action this Thursday, 11/21, when they welcome Bucks County Community College to the Student Union.  This is another pivotal Region XIX match-up and tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.  As always, the game will be live streamed on the Lackawanna College Falcons Athletic Network (LCFAN).
