The Bronx, NY – After a tough loss to Monroe College, the Lackawanna College Women's Basketball team looked to bounce back as they faced ASA Brooklyn in their second game of the Monroe College Classic. Unlike the game against Monroe College, the Lady Falcons would quickly jump out to an 11-2 lead, behind the strong play of
Kiana Williams. ASA Brooklyn eventually settled down and cut the lead to 11-7, but Lackawanna responded by outscoring the Lady Avengers 8-4, to take a 17-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Lackawanna's
Keyanah Price go 3-5 from the floor for 6 points and
Alayah Cowan added 5 points, a 3 pointer and 2 rebounds. They would extend their lead to 28-13 on a
Keyanah Price layup, before ASA Brooklyn cut the Lackawanna lead to single digits 28-21, at the 2:46 mark of the quarter. The Lady Falcons were able to increase their lead back to 11 points when
Briaunna McCullough converted a layup in the paint with :51 seconds left in the quarter. However, ASA Brooklyn was able to score 5 unanswered points to trim the Lackawanna lead to 32-26, going into halftime.
At the start of the second half, the Lady Falcons once again increased their lead to double digits behind
Briaunna McCullough's 7 third quarter points.
Ciaira Loyd would add 4 points to help Lackawanna take a 46-34 lead going into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter,
Kyla Smith would come alive and score 8 points to help Lackawanna increase their lead to a game high 18 points. Smith hit 2-5 3-pointers and grabbed 2 rebounds to prevent ASA Brooklyn from making any type of run. The Lady Falcons out-rebounded ASA Brooklyn 12 to 8 in the fourth quarter to seal the win by a score of 57-39.
With the win, Lackawanna College moves to 2-1 on the season and will be back in action next Saturday November 16
th when they travel to Rowan College of Burlington County. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00pm.
