Mike Morgan, Sr. enters his second season as an Assistant Coach with the Lackawanna College Men's Basketball team in the 2021-2022 season.
Of course, Lackawanna College sports fans are familiar with coach Morgan, who served as the Falcons’ head coach during the 1984-85 season, going 19-9 and leading Lackawanna College to the Regional Playoffs.
Coach Morgan may be more well-known around the region as the former longtime head coach at Riverside HS in Taylor for 17 seasons. In his years with the Vikings (1996-2012 and 2016-2018), Morgan compiled an overall record of 280-160, winning both league and district championships, with multiple appearances in the state playoffs, including a state quarterfinal appearance in the 1999-2000 season. Morgan's teams, known for their intense, man-to-man defense and hard-nosed tenacity, were giant killers on the state playoff level, twice knocking off the #1 ranked team in the state. Coach Morgan coached eight different 1,000 point scorers during his time at Riverside.
Before his time at Riverside, coach Morgan served as an assistant at Scranton HS for Jack Lyons, who coincidentally coached Morgan when he played at Lackawanna College.
Morgan was a standout at Riverside HS, where he scored over 1,000 points for the Vikings during his career.
“I’ve competed against Coach Morgan’s teams back when I was a player and recently as a coach,” said Head Coach Landon Gabriel. “His teams have always been relentlessly competitive and extremely prepared for their opponents. You always knew, playing a Coach Morgan led team would be a grueling experience - win or lose. That focus and intensity is what I expect Coach Morgan to bring to our staff.”
