Coach Matthew Koller, a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, joins the Lackawanna College Men’s Basketball staff with extensive experience as both an educator and coach. A former collegiate player and accomplished physical education professional, Koller brings a strong background in player development, leadership, and building competitive programs.
A graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, Koller played college basketball at Bucks County Community College before earning his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from West Chester University. He currently serves as a Health and Physical Education teacher at West Scranton High School, where he continues to mentor and develop students both in the classroom and through athletics.
Before joining Lackawanna, Koller served as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Stroudsburg High School, helping elevate the program’s success and develop players on and off the court. Koller began his coaching journey in Chester, Pennsylvania, as a Middle School Boys Basketball Coach at Chester Community Charter School. He then spent eight years in Prince George’s County, Maryland—one of the nation’s most competitive high school basketball regions—where he was named Head Boys Basketball Coach at Friendly High School. At the time, he was the youngest head coach in the league, leading his team against elite national competition and mentoring athletes who advanced to higher levels.
In addition to his high school coaching success, Koller served as Director of Operations for the Mark Vincent Basketball Academy in Springfield, Virginia, overseeing training programs and skill development for athletes of all ages. He currently works as an instructor with Point Guard College (PGC), one of the nation’s premier basketball education programs, and with the Chris Paul National Middle School Combine, an elite, invitation-only event that showcases and develops many of the top middle school players in the country. At both programs, Koller focuses on developing leadership, basketball IQ, decision-making skills, and individual performance.
He is dedicated to developing well-rounded student-athletes through discipline, accountability, and teamwork, making him a valuable addition to the Lackawanna College Men’s Basketball program. Coach Koller is excited for this next chapter in his coaching journey and looks forward to helping his players grow both on and off the court while contributing to the continued success of the program.
