Coach Dirk Haynes joined the Lackawanna College men's basketball staff prior to the start of the 2023-2024 campaign.
Haynes brings nearly 30 years of coaching experience to the Falcons' bench this season, having spent the majority of his time as an assistant coach and associate head coach. Haynes, a Keystone College graduate from 1982, was most recently coaching with Hunter College in NY. Prior to that, he coached at his alma mater, Keystone, for the 2015-2016 campaign. He spent almost 20 years before that as the Associate Head Coach at Brother Rice HS in New York City, where he helped the BR squad to eleven Manhattan division titles, six New York State Federation championships, and a 1999 Hoops USA national championship.
At Brother Rice, coach Haynes was responsible for the daily operations of the entire program, which included the freshman, JV, and varsity squads, arranging travel and supervising assistants and managers, as well as coaching some of the top talent to move through New York City. Some of the players he coached include Kemba Walker, Durand Scott, Andre Barrett, Kenny Saterfield, Felipe Lopez, and many other future Division I and professional players.
In 20 seasons at Brother Rice and Brandeis HS, his teams sported a 352-86 record. Haynes was the only assistant in New York to win both the PSAL and CHSAA New York City Manhattan championships.
Off the court, Haynes had been a juvenile counselor with the Division of Youth and Family Justice in New York City and is also the executive director of Building Renovation Inner City Construction Services, Inc. He also spent time in the financial sector at a brokerage firm and a Columbia University.
