Mike McCarry

Hired by Lackawanna College in June of 2018, Mike McCarry is entering his seventh season as the head coach for the Lackawanna College Falcons in 2025.

McCarry has guided the Falcons to three NJCAA Division II World Series appearances in six seasons. The Falcons have captured three Region XIX championships, as well as three District titles, under the tutelage of coach McCarry. He has coached two Region XIX Pitchers of the Year, two Region XIX Offensive Players of the Year, three NJCAA All-Americans, and several All-Regions in his six full seasons. He has four seasons with 30+ wins in his career at Lackawanna College.

2024 was another strong year for the Falcons, as Lackawanna was 31-23 and made the Region XIX DII championship round, before falling to Mercer County CC. Lackawanna recovered from a 1-9 start, eventually winning nine straight to close the regular season. The Falcons had a Region XIX DII Pitcher of the Year in Nicholas Finarelli, four first-team All-Region XIX selections, and five total all-region choices for the season.

The 2023 season was one of the most successful season the Falcons had in a long time, and certainly the best under McCarry. At one point in the year, Lackawanna went on a 12-game winning streak, then won six straight playoff games in the Region XIX and East District tournaments, and then took two games in the NJCAA Division II World Series, the first time in school history that the Falcons won multiple games in the tournament. Lackawanna finished 40-17 overall, tied for second all-time in school history for wins in a year, and the most wins that McCarry has had in his tenure.

The Falcons had another winning season in 2022, going 24-19 overall, and making the Region 19 Tournament championship game, before falling to Mercer County CC in the final. The Vikings went on to represent Region 19 in the NJCAA World Series in 2022.

After the 2020 campaign ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, McCarry's third year saw a return to form for the Falcons, as Lackawanna College went 30-16, captured the Region XIX and East District championships, and appeared in the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Oklahoma.

In 2019, McCarry's first year, he led the Falcons to a 32-17 (11-3) record. The team went undefeated in the Region XIX Tournament to claim the title and then defeated Frederick CC 2-1 in a best-of-three set to win the Northeast District championship. That year, Lackawanna College made its first appearance in the NJCAA Division II World Series since 2015.

McCarry is 166-100 in his six seasons with Lackawanna College. He has coached numerous student-athletes that have received athletic scholarships at four-year institutions and NCAA Division I programs, and he had a player drafted in the MLB Draft in 2023, when pitcher Kyle Scott was taken in the 15th round by the Cleveland Guardians organization, drafted straight from his time at Lackawanna College.

A native of southeastern Pennsylvania, McCarry is no stranger to the northeast part of the commonwealth, having played under head coach Jamie Shevchik at Keystone College from 2003 through 2005. After his playing days at Keystone, he started his coaching career at Central Bucks West where he served as Assistant Coach from 2006 through 2008. In 2007, he took over the reins of the Colts Collegiate Summer Team, serving as both its head coach and team president. Mike started his collegiate coaching career at La Salle University, where he served as the team's Head Assistant – Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Just before arriving at Lackawanna in 2019, McCarry had served as the pitching coach for Stephen F. Austin University, a NCAA DI institution located in Nacogdoches, Texas.

As the pitching coach for LaSalle, four of McCarry's pitchers signed professional contracts including 2013 Houston Astros 27th-round draft pick Pat Christensen.

As a recruiter, McCarry brought four NJCAA All-Americans to LaSalle as well as a pair of high school MLB draftees in Roy Morales (Miami Marlins, 12th round, 2008) and Yan Carlo Rivera (Toronto Blue Jays, 36th round, 2014).

Before his time at LaSalle, McCarry was involved with the Major League Baseball sponsored Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program. In doing so, he helped inner city baseball players in their efforts to secure collegiate opportunities.

McCarry gained extensive fund-raising experience through his involvement with the Colts Collegiate Baseball organization. Mike organized events, in partnership with local businesses, which raised upwards of $14,000 annually.

He has also been successful in providing tutoring opportunities and job search assistance for his players during their collegiate careers and after their graduation.

McCarry lives in Quakerstown with his wife, Dani, and their two children.
