WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The #3 Golden Rams from West Chester University put Lackawanna College women's soccer under constant pressure and came away with six tallies to win, 6-0, at Rockwell Field on Saturday afternoon.
Â
West Chester (3-0-0) came in ranked at #3 in the latest United Soccer Coaches' Division II rankings, and they plastered the Falcons (0-3-0) with 25 shots in the first half and 46 shots all together. The Falcons withstood the pressure initially, allowing just a goal in the 13
th minute, and getting 12 saves from keeper
Sophia Arvelo (Allentown, PA). The Falcons even managed to get a shot on target soon after the goal, when
Aislyn Fitzgerald (Langhorne, PA) shot down the left touchline, cut to her right between defenders, then uncorked a low shot that was saved.
Â
After halftime was where West Chester really started to get going, scoring five second half goals, four inside of the first 13 minutes, and ran away with the win.
Â
Arvelo finished with 17 saves, as West Chester put 23 shots on target. The Golden Rams had 12 corner kicks to zero for the Falcons.
Â
Besides Fitzgerald's shot, the Falcons had a pair of attempts from
Isabella Caligiuri (Effort, PA) that almost got the Falcons on the board. One came in the 66
th minute, when a long ball from
Darexy Monroy (Pleasantville, NJ) skipped over the defender's head and onto the foot of a sprinting Caligiuri, who nearly beat the keeper 1-v-1. The other came in the 74
th minute, when
MacKenzie Seifried (Winfield, NJ) chipped a ball up over the defender for Caligiuri to run onto, but she couldn't chip the keeper to get the goal.
Â
The next contest will stay in PSAC competition for the Falcons, as they'll host Mansfield University on Wednesday, September 9
th, at 3:30pm ET at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
