MSOC: Falcons Can't Unlock West Chester Defense, Fall 3-0

Despite Playing A Solid Contest, Lackawanna College Failed To Score Against Their Opponents From West Chester

9/30/26

DUNMORE, Pa. – An early goal from visiting West Chester University forced Lackawanna College men's soccer to do its best to scrap, and the Falcons eventually dropped a 3-0 decision at home to the Golden Rams on Wednesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.

The Falcons (0-7-2) were playing even with the Rams through the first few minutes in the first half, but they gave up a goal in the 15th minute against the run of play, after the Rams (4-3-2) forced a turnover and pinged the ball onto the feet of Joseph Maxwell charging into the box. West Chester posted seven shots, while the Falcons had three in the first half, but Lackawanna had decent amounts of possession, just nothing to show for it.

The Falcons still had spirit early in the second half, holding possession and taking chances, but a foul inside midfield gave the Golden Rams a chance, and they made Lackawanna pay. Peter Tichy looped a ball towards the left side of the box, where Ian Alicea flicked it backwards off the top of his head, beating the Falcons to the net to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute. Despite their possession, Lackawanna had just one shot in the second half, a shot that went high and wide, and West Chester managed to add a third against a tired and pressing Lackawanna, scoring a breakaway goal from Ryan Rauber in the 87th minute to round out the scoring.

Lackawanna wasn't without its chances in the contest. Jonathan Cuellar (El Paso, TX) came in with a shot in the third minute, forcing a save from West Chester. Late in the first half, trailing 1-0, Wisdom Afrani (Accra, Ghana) just missed curling a free kick into the net in the 41st minute. Will Clugh (Shippensburg, PA) took a shot from distance a few seconds later, but the attempt lacked pace and the save was easy for the Rams.

West Chester outshot Lackawanna, 12-to-4, with seven shots on target and one corner. Keeper Rowin Thomas (Abilene, TX) had four saves for the Falcons. Jozsef Mark Szilagyi (Budapest, Hungary) had one shot, while Cuellar and Clugh had the only two shots on frame for the Falcons.

Lackawanna College will continue its search for a win on Saturday, October 3rd, when the Falcons travel to take on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Kick is set for 3:00pm ET at the Pitt-Johnstown soccer field. After that, the Falcons are set to host East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday, October 7th for their next home game. Kick for that contest is scheduled for 3:30pm ET at Schautz Stadium.
