DUNMORE, Pa. – A pair of ten-minute spells where Lackawanna College women's soccer couldn't keep a clean sheet spelled doom for the Falcons against a talented Kutztown University squad, as the Golden Bears won 7-0 against Lackawanna on Wednesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.
 
The Falcons (0-2-0) got five saves from keeper Sophia Arvelo (Allentown, PA), who faced 12 shots on target and 21 total shots from KU (2-0-1). Kutztown dominated in possession, with 13 corner kicks to zero for the Falcons, and the Bears scored three goals in a ten-minute stretch in the first half, and then three more goals in ten minutes in the second half, before adding a seventh in the 83^rd minute to round out the scoring.
 
Kutztown fired off a pair of shots inside the first six minutes, the second saved brilliantly by Arvelo, and the Falcons managed to weather the storm through the first 20 minutes, battling with the Golden Bears to stay on their feet. However, Kutztown found the breakthrough in the 21^st minute when Corinne Morgan pounced on a loose ball on the right side of the box and fired a shot up into the roof of the net to put Kutztown in front.
 
Just two minutes later, Maddi Preston added a second goal for the Bears in the 23^rd, and, after a flurry of shots from Kutztown, Morgan scored again to make it 3-0 I the 31^st minute. It was three goals in ten minutes to put the Bears comfortably in front. Arvelo made another nice save in the 42^nd minute to keep it a three-goal deficit heading into the break.
 
The Bears were unleashed in the early stages of the second half, scoring three goals in a brutal ten-minute stretch of the second half, getting goals in the 52^nd, 57^th, and 59^th minutes to push the lead to 6-0.
 
Substitute Grace King (Calvert County, MD) got the first shot for the Falcons, ripping one high in the 66^th minute after a decent spell of possession for the Falcons. MacKenzie Seifried (Winfield, NJ) put one on target, forcing a save on a shot to the bottom left, very nearly putting Lackawanna on the board.
 
Kutztown regained some control over the proceedings and added one more goal in the 83^rd minute to get up seven goals, and saw out what remained of the game from there.
 
Lackawanna College's schedule doesn't get any easier, as the Falcons will travel to take on #3 West Chester University on Saturday, September 5^th. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm ET at John A. Rockwell Field in West Chester, PA.
