DUNMORE, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's soccer played solid defense for 70 minutes before Bloomsburg University ratcheted up the pressure, scoring four goals in the final 17 minutes to secure the 5-0 win over the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.
 
The Falcons (1-5-0) gave up an early goal to the Huskies in the third minute, but played solid defense throughout the rest of the half. The Falcons didn't record any shots in the first half, but they had a handful of opportunities to push forward into the offensive third.
 
Bloomsburg (3-3-0) would cut that down in the second half, ramping up the pressure and peppering the Lackawanna net with 23 shots. The Huskies pinned the Falcons deep, forcing six second-half saves from keeper Sophia Arvelo (Allentown, PA) and pressing high. Eventually, that pressure paid off, when a penetrating run on the left side opened the defense up, and the cross was met in the middle to make it 2-0 in the 73^rd minute.
 
A third goal was scored just three minutes later, when a cross was met with a header into the left side of the net in the 76^th. Nine minutes later, a foul in the box led to a penalty for the Huskies, pushing their lead to 4-0, and the Huskies added one more in the 87^th minute to go ahead 5-0.
 
Bloomsburg had 31 total shots, 15 on target. Lackawanna had one shot, a long-range attempt from Alana Alayo (Cherry Hill, NJ) in the second half. Arvelo finished with ten saves on the day. Bloomsburg had nine corners.
 
Lackawanna College is back to action on Saturday, September 19^th, when the Falcons travel to take on Shepherd University for their first-ever match-up with the Rams. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET at the Shepherd Soccer Complex in Shepherdstown, WV, and the game is the first in a doubleheader, with the men's teams playing after at 3:30pm ET.
