SCRANTON, Pa. – The defending PSAC champions had little issue with Lackawanna College women's volleyball, as East Stroudsburg University breezed to a three-set sweep (25-15, 25-18, 25-12) on Tuesday evening inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
 
It was the first time that the Warriors (7-5) had ever competed inside the historic venue in Scranton, but ESU quickly got to work, hitting a sold .281 for the match, including a blistering .429 in the closing set, to continuously build leads that the Falcons could not overcome.
 
Set one was competitive early, with Lackawanna (0-5) fired up for its first PSAC contest, but the Warriors held a slight edge throughout the early proceedings, leading 9-7 through the first 16 points. ESU used a 7-1 run, highlighted by four kills and an ace, to go ahead 16-8, but the Falcons used a three-point spurt to get back within five. The deficit, however, was too great, and ESU scored nine of the final 13 points to win the first set, 25-15.
The best chance for Lackawanna (0-5) came in the second set, where the Falcons went toe-to-toe with the Warriors, even using a six-point run to turn a 9-4 deficit into a 10-9 lead, sparked by two aces from Kady Schreiner (Mountaintop, PA) and three errors from the visitors, as well as a kill for Aryana Brown (Chester, NY). Later, a kill by Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) made it 13-13, and the momentum was there for the Falcons, but ESU hit an 8-0 run without blinking, aided by four errors from the Falcons, and rode that advantage to the 25-18 win.
 
Set three saw ESU hit an 8-2 run to go ahead 11-6, then, after a Hofmann kill, the Warriors scored six more in a row to make it 17-7, helped by three service aces and an attack error from Lackawanna. The Falcons would get as close as eight at 18-10, but that was the best they could do, as the Warriors cruised to the 25-12 win and the three-set sweep.
 
Leah Novatne had ten kills, while Kelly Crites added nine for ESU. Georgia Stevens had 20 assists, while Kyra Bishop added 14. Allison Flynn had 17 digs as the libero, and Jadyn Orava posted four service aces.
 
Hofmann had seven kills to lead the Falcons, posting seven digs, while Angelique Fuentes (Miami, FL) added a pair of kills. Skylar Theis (Cypress Park, TX) had nine digs as the libero, and Adalee Rosado Rivera (Guyama, Puerto Rico) had a team-high seven assists.
 
Lackawanna stays in PSAC play this coming weekend when the Falcons travel in the PSAC for the first time, taking on Lock Haven in a first-ever match-up on Saturday, September 19^th. The match is set for a 1:00pm ET start at the Thomas Fieldhouse in Lock Haven, PA.
