SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College men's soccer is looking to bounce back with a home game against Millersville University this coming weekend, as the Falcons host the Marauders for the first of two match-ups between the pair this season. Kick is set for 1:00pm ET on Saturday, September 12^th, at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
 
The Falcons
Lackawanna (0-3-1) comes into the weekend after dropping a 3-0 decision on the road at East Stroudsburg this past Wednesday night. After a scoreless first half, the Warriors ramped up the pressure in the second half, scoring within the first four minutes of the second stanza and adding two more as the half went on. ESU outshot the Falcons 19-3, with six shots on target, and the Warriors had nine corners to just three for Lackawanna. You can read the full recap HERE.
 
Wisdom Afrani (Accra, Ghana) and Tito Tokunboh-Salako (Columbia, MD) each had shots on goal. Keeper Rowin Thomas (Abilene, TX) had two saves in 75 minutes of action.
 
On the season, the Falcons have given up eight goals and scored two in four games this year. Lackawanna has 39 shots, 17 on target (.436), with their opponents posting 47 shots, 14 on target (.298). The Falcons have played even with their opponents in terms of corner kicks (18 against and 17 for), but the goals have been lacking for Lackawanna.
 
Cristian Lopez-Contreras (Guatemala) had the assist on each goal for the Falcons, and the goal scorers are Miguel Pereira (Revere, MA) and Aydin Boyunegmez (Millville, PA). Boyunegmez's goal came against Berkeley on September 5^th, a header off a free kick from Lopez-Contreras. Pereira's goal came in the draw against King's College. Lopez-Contreras leads the team with nine shots and five on target, while Afrani has five shots and Pereira has four this year. In between the pipes, Kevin Nievas (West Palm Beach, FL) has four saves and has started every game for the Falcons. Thomas has a pair of saves this year and has made two appearances.
 
Lackawanna College is coached by Will Flannery, in his first season at the helm and who took over the program in February earlier this calendar year.
 
In seven months, Flannery has re-energized the squad with a strong professional work ethic that emphasizes accountability and team culture, and the Falcons will field a team with young, talented players at nearly all positions.
 
There wasn't much that returned from last year's team, in terms of production, but multiple transfers have experience on the collegiate level elsewhere, including Lopez-Contreras, who was a second-team NJCAA All-American last year at Harford CC, where he scored 15 goals and had seven assists for the Fighting Owls. The Falcons hope to pair his talent with speedy wingers on the edge and center forwards up front.
 
 
The Marauders
The Marauders (4-1-0) enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak and are receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II poll. After a loss at home to Ashland on August 30^th, the Marauders whipped Cal (PA) with a 7-1 win on the road, then knocked off Salem 3-0 last weekend, before taking down Shepherd on the road, 1-0, this past Wednesday.
 
Millersville scored a 31^st minute goal against Shepherd on Wednesday and defended the rest of the way for the win on the road in PSAC play. The Marauders put pressure on the Rams searching for a second goal in the second half, outshooting Shepherd 11-5 in the second half and 16-8 overall. Millersville had four corners to just three for Shepherd. Zander Leik scored the goal, assisted by Juan Ortiz Escobar. Logan Kratz had three saves to pick up a shutout victory.
 
Millersville has 16 goals in five games this season, allowing just three in response. The Marauders have outshot their opponents, 82-31, with 36 shots on target (.439). Millersville also has 27 corners to 16 from their opponents.
 
Leik leads the Marauders with seven points this year, posting three goals and an assist on the year. Leik is a fifth-year player who was a first-team All-American and All-PSAC East First-Team last year. He had two goals and an assist in the 7-1 win at Cal (PA) earlier this month.
 
Senior Roy Parkyn has three goals in five games this season, and he's a two-time All-PSAC East selection. Parkyn had two of his three goals at Salem last weekend in the 3-0 win. He also scored a goal in the win against Holy Family in the season-opener.
 
Senior Haven Thomas has a pair of goals this year on just three shots, playing in five games and starting in three. Thomas had a goal against Holy Family and another at Cal (PA) this year.
 
Junior keeper Gavin Masssimi has started and appeared in four games this season, allowing the three goals against the Marauders this year. First-year keeper Logan Kratz has appeared in three games and has one start, which was the previous game against Shepherd, posting a clean sheet. He combined with Massimi for a clean sheet against Salem.
 
Longtime coach Steve Widdowson is he head coach for the Marauders, entering his 20^th season in charge at Millersville. Widdowson has a decorated resume in his time at Millersville, winning 224 matches in his career. He has five PSAC championships and eight NCAA tournament appearances. The best finish for Millersville under Widdowson came in 2011, when the Marauders won the PSAC, made the NCAA tournament, and went to the NCAA semi-finals. His 2008 squad had the most wins, finishing with 18 victories and making the NCAA quarterfinals. He's a three-time Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, and a six-time PSAC COTY. He has developed eleven All-Americans, 73 All-PSAC selections, and five PSAC Players of the Year. Widdowson is a decorated professional, getting his start as a 15-year-old playing at Barnsley PFC as a member of the U-19 Northern Intermediate League squad and, eventually, joining the senior team as the back-up keeper in the English Championship division. He moved to the USA to pursue an education and went to Rutgers, where he helped the Scarlet Knights win Atlantic 10 and Big East titles, while also making the NCAA tournament and advancing to the Final Four in his freshman year.
 
Widdowson's 2026 squad was picked as the top team in the PSAC East this season. They won the PSAC East last year and finished as runners-up in the conference. 75% of the 2025 team is back for the Marauders, which includes five All-PSAC selections.
