BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Lackawanna College men's basketball played a tight first half against Division I Harcum College, but the Bears pulled away in the second half to snag the 101-69 win in a Region XIX DI/DII crossover on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Falcons (12-12) rested some starters and used a completely different starting lineup, and the early returns were not kind, as the Bears (14-6) turned over the young Falcons several times to run out to a 13-3 lead through the game's first three minutes. Lackawanna recovered from the initial shock, slowly climbing back into the contest and getting within four points at 15-11 with 13:30 to go in the first half. The Falcons tied the game at 17 a few minutes later on a three-pointer from
Matthew Nora (Houston, TX) with ten minutes to go in the half, and the Falcons played the Bears tight through the rest of the first half, briefly taking a 30-29 lead with under six to play. Eventually, Harcum did start to make some three-pointers, and took a ten-point lead at halftime, 47-37.
Â
The second half saw the Falcons making some mental errors and missing shots, while the Bears ratcheted up the defensive pressure, continued to execute on the offensive end, and leaned on their size and depth. Lackawanna held serve and was down 55-45 four minutes into the second half, but the shots didn't stay consistent, and Harcum eventually pulled away for the win.
Â
Khalil Kemp (Philadelphia, PA) led the way with 20 points for the Falcons, while
Kaleb Ra'Ifa (Wilmington, DE) returned from injury to score ten points, and
Jack Russell (Montrose, PA) added a season-best eleven.
Â
The Falcons have dropped three-in-a-row, and will look to get off the skids with an important Region XIX DII contest on Tuesday, February 10
th, as Lackawanna travels to take on Mercer County CC. Tip is set for 7:00pm ET in West Windsor Twp., NJ, and the game is the second of a doubleheader, with the women's teams playing first at 5:00pm ET.
