MSOC: 90th Minute Stunner Gives Lackawanna A Draw At West Chester

Cristian Lopez-Contreras Scored A Goal With Five Seconds Remaining To Get The Falcons A Much-Needed Result

10/21/26

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – With the last kick of the game, Lackawanna College men's soccer earned another huge point against a top team in the PSAC East, as the Falcons scored a 90th minute stunner to earn a draw at West Chester University, 1-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Rockwell Field on WCU's campus.

The Falcons (1-8-6) trailed 1-0 late in the contest and were flying forward in search of the equalizer. With under a minute to go, Lackawanna was awarded a corner kick on the left side. Late sub Amani Byirinbiro (Scranton, PA), only on the field for five minutes, lofted a long ball to the back post, where Miguel Pereira (Revere, MA) flicked it into the path of Cristian Lopez-Contreras (Chambersburg, PA), who thumped it into the goal to tied the match with five seconds on the clock.

The Lackawanna bench streamed to the right corner to celebrate with Lopez-Contreras, and the game ended just a few seconds later, handing the Falcons a stunning result.

West Chester (6-4-5) came into the match in the top spot in the latest PSAC East standings, and the Golden Rams managed to pressure the Falcons and eventually take a lead in the 63rd minute, when Peter Tichy was fouled in the box by Lackawanna's Jonathan Cuellar (El Paso, TX). West Chester was awarded the penalty, and Tichy scored to put WCU on top.

That goal seemed to wake up the Lackawanna offense, as the Falcons started probing the West Chester defense for openings. Jozsef Mark Szilagyi (Budapest, Hungary) forced a save in the 68th minute, followed by Tito Tokunboh-Salako (Columbia, MD) forcing another save in the 71st.

Lackawanna kept pushing, and Byirinbiro came on for Lopez-Contreras in the 85th minute. Lopez-Contreras had just returned to live action for the first time since September 12th. He was subbed back on in the 90th minute, and the Falcons flung him towards the goal for what would be the equalizer off the corner set-piece.

West Chester out-shot the Falcons, 17-10, and the Golden Rams had a 7-4 advantage in shots on target. WCU had nine corners vs. three for the Falcons.

First-year keeper Rowin Thomas (Abilene, TX) had six saves for the Falcons. Michael Hoy (Mechanicsburg, PA) had two shots, one on target, while Adrian Argote (Leonardtown, MD) and Dylan Shupp (Bethlehem, PA) each added shots, as did Malik Salau (Lagos, Nigeria), Wisdom Afrani (Accra, Ghana), and Byron McNeil (Springfield, IL).

Lackawanna College has one more PSAC contest on the docket this season, with an away contest at Millersville on Saturday, October 24th. Kick is set for 1:00pm ET at Pucillo Field on campus at Millersville.
