MSOC: First Half Flattens Falcons In Loss To Shepherd

Lackawanna College Capitulated With Four Goals In The Final 15 Minutes Of The First Half Against Shepherd

10/17/26

DUNMORE, Pa. – A nightmarish final 15 minutes of the first half completely unwound Lackawanna College men's soccer, as the Falcons fell 6-0 at home to Shepherd University on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.

The Falcons (1-8-5) were a bit uneven early, but still battling with the Rams through the first 30 minutes, but Shepherd (8-3-3) found the breakthrough on a cross that deflected off the boot of a Lackawanna College defender to make it 1-0, Rams, on the own goal in the 31st minute.

The let-up completely rattled the Falcons, as Shepherd started pressing hard and chasing more goals, and the pressure was rewarded after Kevin Nievas (West Palm Beach, FL) made a spectacular diving save to his right, but the deflection bounced into the path of a crashing Ram player who slotted it home for the 2-0 lead. Shepherd would add two more against a completely deflated Lackawanna defense, and it was 4-0 at the break.

The shell shocked Falcons came out looking for a better half in the second, but Shepherd had more pain dish out, scoring a slow dribbling goal off a deflection in the box in the 53rd minute, and tacking on one more goal I the 64th minute to make it 6-0.

Shepherd out-shot the Falcons, 17-11, with eight shots on target. Jonathan Cuellar (El Paso, TX) had three shots on target, while Adrian Argote (Leonardstown, MD) had a pair of shots on frame. Nievas had one save, while Rowin Thomas (Abilene, TX) had a pair of second-half saves.

The loss ends a four-game unbeaten run for the Falcons. They'll be back to action on Wednesday, October 21st, with a road contest at West Chester University. Kick is set for 2:00pm ET at West Chester.
