BASE: Brown Bashes And Falcons Mash Delaware Tech In Region XIX Opener

Deacon Brown Hit A Pair Of Home Runs And Lackawanna College Was Dominant At The Plate To Open Region Play With A Win

3/21/25

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Lackawanna College baseball dropped the hammer on Delaware Tech CC on Friday, hitting four home runs en route to a 15-8 win in the Region XIX Division II opener for both teams in southern Delaware on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons (8-10, 1-0) hit ten extra-base hits, including four homers and six doubles, and posted 17 hits on the day, scoring runs in six of the nine innings played. Lackawanna trailed 4-2 after four innings, but scored seven runs in the fifth to flip the game on its head, and then scored six more runs over the final four innings to consistently build its lead. Del Tech (7-12, 0-1) did its best to try to answer, but the Falcons did enough, defensively, to limit the damage.

Right fielder Deacon Brown (Williamsport, PA) was stellar, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs, hitting two solo home runs and a pair of doubles. Jason Prudente (Bear Creek Twp., PA) went 2-for-5, with one of those hits being a grand slam home run in the fifth inning. Tyler Lepage (Macungie, PA) added three hits and an RBI, and Brooks Henderson IV (Feasterville, PA) added a homer and three RBIs on the day. Starter Ryan Novakowski (Forty Fort, PA) had eleven strikeouts in seven innings for his second win of the season, giving up six runs, four earned, on ten hits.

A pair of Brown solo homers in the second and fourth innings had given Lackawanna College a 2-1 lead, but Del Tech answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead heading into the fifth.

Jake Kelleher (Exeter, PA) led the fifth off with a double, and a hit batter put two on with nobody out. Lepage singled to load the bases, and then, after a strikeout, Brown delivered with a two run double to make it 4-4. Henderson drew a walk to load the bases again, still with just the one out, and a hit batter forced in the go-ahead score. Prudente dug in and drove a pitch out to deep center, clearing the fence for a grand slam that made it 9-4, Falcons, heading into the bottom of the fifth.

After a solo shot for DTCC made it 9-5, the Falcons added a pair of runs in the sixth on a Lepage RBI single and a sac fly from Henderson. Del Tech scored a run in the seventh to make it 11-6, but the Falcons added three more on a one-run double by Brown and a two-run homer from Henderson. Kelleher doubled another run home in the ninth, and Del Tech hit a two-run homer in the bottom frame before George Creighton (Somers, NY) closed things out.

Lackawanna College will continue its weekend series with Delaware Tech on Saturday, March 22nd, when the Falcons host DTCC for a doubleheader in Region XIX DII play. First pitch of the twin bill is set for a 1:00pm ET start at Scranton HS baseball field.
