MSOC: Sussex Knocks Off Lackawanna With Second-Half Flurry

The Falcons Closed Within 2-1 Early In The Second, But The Skylanders Scored Three In The Second Half To Pull Away

Box Score 10/4/25

NEWTON, NJ – Sussex County CC defeated Lackawanna College 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in a Region XIX DII/DIII crossover contest at Sussex County CC's soccer field.

The Falcons (2-5-0) were hemmed in early, down a player, and Sussex capitalized, scoring on a goal nine minutes in, then adding a second on a great break and a cross in the 11th minute. That lead would remain the same into halftime.

Lackawanna got on the board in the second half less than three minutes in, when Edwin Garces blasted home a free kick goal from past the top of the box in the 47th minute. Sussex (5-7-0) quickly responded, however, hitting a long ball a few minutes later that a forward managed to chip over the keeper.

The Skylanders added a fourth goal a half hour later, then made it 5-1 in the 85th minute on a header from the top of the box that flew over the keeper's head.

Lackawanna College is back to work on Saturday, October 11th, with a road match at Mercer County CC. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm ET at Mercer County CC's soccer field in West Windsor Twp., NJ.
