WEST CALDWELL, NJ – Lackawanna men's soccer fell in their first Region XIX DII contest of the season, dropping a 9-1 decision on the road at Essex County College on Saturday afternoon at the West Essex Campus soccer field.
The Falcons (0-2) were under pressure throughout the contest with Essex (2-0-1) and surrendered a first half hattrick to Kristijan Penic from Essex, falling behind 4-0 at the break. A fifth goal came just two minutes into the half, and another followed nine minutes later. Finally, in the 73
rd minute,
Sebastian Carmona (Scranton, PA) got Lackawanna on the board for his second goal of the season, making it 6-1. Essex immediately answered, putting up three more goals in the half to round out the scoring.
Carmona's goal came on a pass from
Nahuel Minis (Old Forge, PA).
Aldo Vargas (Scranton, PA), under constant fire from the outset, finished with 18 saves for the Falcons.
Lackawanna College will look to rebound on Thursday, September 19
th, when the Falcons travel to the state capital to take on Harrisburg Area CC. The first kick is set for 4:00pm ET.
