SCRANTON, Pa. – In a rematch of the 2023 East District championship from a year ago, the Lackawanna College baseball offense made sure it was one way traffic on the base paths, as the Falcons cruised to a 17-2 victory in seven innings over Sullivan County CC on Tuesday afternoon at Scranton HS baseball field.
Â
The Falcons (10-13) were set down in order in the first, then added runs in every subsequent inning from there, building a seven-run lead after one, a 10-2 advantage after three, and an ever-increasing margin for the rest of the game. Lackawanna pounded out 16 hits, six of them for extra-bases, and two homers, while drawing six walks, stealing three bases, and getting hit by five pitches. Five Lackawanna players had multiple hits on the day, as the home team set a pace that the visiting Generals (8-8) just couldn't keep up with.
Â
Ty Federici (Sophomore; Dallas, PA) got the scoring going in the bottom of the second, singling home the first run on a one-out hit with runners at the corners. A
Brayden D'Amico (Sophomore; Bethlehem, PA) double scored two more, and a two-run single, followed by a two-run homer from
Aydan McNelly (Sophomore; Limerick, PA) capped off the seven-run inning. Sullivan scored a pair in the top of the third, but the Generals could only muster three hits, and only one hit after the third inning. Lackawanna added a sac fly, a bases-loaded walk, and a bases-loaded hit batter in the third, a two-run double in the fourth, and a three-run homerun for
Brooks Henderson IV (First Year; Feasterville, PA) to build a 15-2 advantage. The lead grew in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk, followed by a ground out to third to make it 17-2 in the sixth.
Â
D'Amico was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI on a pair of doubles, while Henderson, was 2-for-5 with four RBI.
Louis Kegerreis (Redshirt First Year; Murrysville, PA) went 2-for-4 with a team-best five RBI, and
Michael Rickert (Sophomore; Moosic, PA) was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
Kirk Stensrud (First Year; Glenside, PA) got the win, pitching three innings of no-hit ball in relief, striking out three and walking two.
Â
The Falcons, after starting the year at 2-10, have won eight of their last eleven games, and are back to work on Wednesday, March 27
th, when they travel to take on SUNY Westchester CC for a single nine-inning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm ET in Valhalla, NY.Â
