SCRANTON, Pa. -- The back-to-back NJCAAE champion Lackawanna College Esports Rocket League squad is competing this weekend, but this time to help defeat a different opponent.
The Falcons are combining forces with five other schools from around the state and surrounding region for the One Pill Can Kill Game Over Tournament this weekend. It's a single-elimination tournament between the schools, occurring on Saturday, March 2nd, at 7:00pm ET live on Twitch. The event is hosted by the NJCAAE in conjunction with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration to bring awareness to the increasing risk of opioid abuse and the inherent dangers with using. Viewers will have the chance to watch along as the teams compete, while hearing from special guest commentators throughout the tournament, delivering the play-by-play and also talking vital information about the dangers of opioid abuse. Viewers will also have the chance to participate in special informational quizzes with a potential prize of gaming consoles or accessories up for grabs.
Lackawanna College, winner of the NJCAAE Rocket League tournaments in Spring and Fall 2023, will serve as the top-seed in the six-team tournament. The Falcons are competing alongside fellow Region XIX schools Montgomery County CC, Luzerne County CC, Harrisburg Area CC, and Camden County College, as well as the Community College of Beaver County from out in western Pennsylvania. The Falcons and the Mustangs from Montco are the top two seeds and will receive byes into the semi-final round.
