SCRANTON, Pa. – As good as advertised, Union College forced 36 turnovers and held Lackawanna College women's basketball down all night, beating the Falcons by a 97-48 margin on Tuesday night inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium in Region XIX DII play.
Â
The Falcons (6-3, 3-1) had early hopes of sticking with the #4 team in all of NJCAA Division II, but the Owls (8-0, 6-0) wasted little time, opening up a 22-10 lead after one quarter, putting up 52 points by halftime, and running away for the win to remain unbeaten on the season.
Â
Union shot 41.8% from the floor, had 43 points off turnovers, and outrebounded Lackawanna by a 47-33 margin, pulling down 22 offensive boards alone. The Falcons shot just 27.1% for the game, committed 36 turnovers, and struggled to get their offense in any sort of a rhythm the entire night.
Â
Salote Franklin (Philadelphia, PA) led the way with 13 points and six rebounds, while
Jayla South (Long Pond, PA) added ten points and two rebounds.
Sophia Summa (Dunmore, PA) led the bench with five points, all in the fourth quarter.
Â
The Falcons have a week off with the Thanksgiving holiday, and will return to action on Tuesday, December 3
rd, when they are set to travel for a Region XIX DII match-up with Raritan Valley CC. Tip-off is set for 5:00pm ET inside the Raritan Valley CC gymnasium in Branchburg, NJ, and the game will be the first of a doubleheader, with the men's teams set to compete at 7:00pm ET.
