MBB: Moy Carries Falcons Past Jayhawks In Overtime

The First-Year Forward Scored All Eight Points In OT To Push Lackawanna Past Jamestown CC

Box Score 11/17/24

SANBORN, NY – Lackawanna men's basketball blew a seven-point lead late, but managed to pull out the win in overtime with an 80-76 win against Jamestown CC on Sunday afternoon at the SUNY Niagara Tip-Off Classic.

The Falcons (5-3) put three players in double-figures, with Evan Laybourn-Boddie (Scranton, PA) pacing the squad from Scranton with 26 points, while Tyrick Moy (Williamsport, PA) and Nick Marabito (Upper Darby, PA) adding 17 and 14 points, respectively. Moy had all eight points for Lackawanna in overtime, taking the game over when the Falcons needed a boost.

Laybourn-Boddie hit a pretty step-back three-pointer to make it 68-61, Falcons, with just over four minutes to go, but Jamestown (1-7) answered with a three of its own, igniting a 7-0 spurt that culminated in the Jayhawks tying the game on a pair of free throws with 2:31 to play. Marabito gave Lackawanna the lead back at 2:15 with a tough lay-up on the baseline, but the Jayhawks hit a long two-pointer to tie things back up. Laybourn-Boddie gave the Falcons the lead on a great hesitation and drive on the left side with 1:15 to make it 72-70, and Lackawanna had a chance to seal the game with 44.9 seconds to go with a trip to the free throw line. Lackawanna missed the front-end of the one-and-one, and Jamestown hit the tying shot with 25 seconds to play on a two-handed dunk. The Falcons missed a three-pointer to win with eight seconds left, giving Jamestown a chance at a winner, but the Jayhawks missed a leaner as time expired, sending the game to overtime at 72-72.

In the extra frame, Moy got the Falcons going with two free throws just 12 seconds in. Then, after Jamestown missed two free throws with 3:40 to play, Moy struck again, this time on a baby-hook in the lane that made it 76-72, Falcons, with 3:15 to go. Moy scored about a minute later, this time on a feed from Jaden McMeekin (Pittsburgh, PA), which expanded the Lackawanna lead out to 78-73. Jamestown hit a three with 40 seconds remaining that cut the Lackawanna lead to two at 78-76, but the Falcons scored with Moy one more time, this time on a screen-and-roll with Laybourn-Boddie, and the Falcons held that four-point lead for the win. Fittingly, the game ended with Moy grabbing a rebound as time expired.

Lackawanna will look to get its Region XIX DII schedule up-and-running on Tuesday, November 19th, as the Falcons will travel to take on Essex County College in Newark, NJ. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm ET, following the conclusion of the women's game, which will happen first at 5:00pm ET inside the Essex County College gymnasium. The Falcons went 1-1 against Essex last year, winning by an eight-point margin at home last December, but falling in double overtime in Newark in January.
