WBB: Shooting Woes Doom Lackawanna Late At Montgomery

The Falcons Had A Three-Minute Scoring Drought To End The Game, Handing Lackawanna Its First Loss

11/12/24

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Lackawanna women's basketball almost overcame a tough shooting night to steal the victory, but the Falcons went scoreless over the final 3:18, and Montgomery College went on a 10-0 run to win 76-62 over Lackawanna in non-region women's basketball action on Tuesday evening in Maryland.

The Falcons (2-1) closed a nine-point gap in the span of a handful of seconds to get within four of Montgomery late in the fourth quarter. Trailing 66-57, Jayla South (Long Pond, PA) banged home a three-pointer with 3:29 to play that made it a six-point deficit. On the inbounds pass, Sophia Summa (Dunmore, PA) stole the pass, then charged to the basket and sank a lay-up that cut the deficit to 66-62 with 3:18 to go. The Falcons forced another turnover on a long pass, and had the chance to potentially take it to a one-possession game, but Lackawanna missed a lay-up, and the Falcons never got that close again.

In all, Lackawanna missed six shots over the last three minutes, along with four free throws, and Montgomery (3-1) slowly pulled away for the win. The Falcons shot 25.9% from the floor, and were just 6-for-33 from three-point range, while hitting 12-for-23 from the free throw line, a 52% average. Montgomery was 33% from the floor and hit 64% from the free throw line, while putting four players in double-figures.

Sophomore Desiree White (Carlisle, PA) scored a game-high 26 points, going 8-for-18 from the floor and hitting four three-point shots, while South had 12 points and eleven rebounds. Salote Franklin (Philadelphia, PA) had seven points and ten rebounds, while Saraiah Franklin (Philadelphia, PA) had six points and nine boards.

The Falcons will look to bounce back on Saturday, November 16th, when they travel to Sanborn, NY for the Niagara Tip-Off Classic at Niagara County CC. Lackawanna will play Jamestown CC at 4:00pm ET.
