DUNMORE, Pa. – Lackawanna College men's soccer had three first half goals on its way to a 4-2 win against Northampton CC in a Region XIX Divisional crossover at Schautz Stadium.
The Falcons (1-3-0) hit the front almost immediately against the Spartans (5-4-2), when
Alexandro Velazquez (Wilkes-Barre, PA) darted in along the left side near the touchline, finding space in the box and beating the keeper near post for the first goal just three minutes in.
They added a second in the 23
rd minute, when
Nahuel Minis (Old Forge, PA) kept possession through contact near the top of the box, turned, spun, and launched a shot into the upper left corner of the net that made it 2-0. It was Minis's second goal in two games.
That finally got
Sebastian Carmona (Scranton, PA) going, as Carmona made it 3-0 on an impressive long ball from
Ermir Hoti (Gjakova, Kosovo) in the 35
th minute. Northampton added a goal in the 39
th to get on the board and make it 3-1 at the break, but Carmona added a second goal in the 52
nd minute in the second half, scoring on a breakaway down the right side to put Lackawanna up 4-1.
Northampton scored a second goal in the 73
rd minute, but the Falcons were able to hang on for their first victory in 2024, giving coach
Danny Berg his first win as the head coach this season.
Carmona finished with two goals and an assist, while Minis and Velazquez each had a goal. Hoti and Velazquez each picked up assists.
Aldo Vargas (Scranton, PA) had five saves for the Falcons.
Lackawanna is back to action on Wednesday, October 9
th, when the Falcons will take on Region XIX DI opponent Harcum College. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET in Bryn Mawr, PA, and the game is the first of a doubleheader, with the women's teams playing afterwards at 3:00pm ET.
