WVB: Falcons Finish Region Regular Season Unbeaten

Lackawanna College Women's Volleyball Clinched An Unbeaten Division II Record And Secured The Top-Seed In Next Week's Tournament

Box Score 10/24/24

RANDOLPH, NJ – Lackawanna women's volleyball snapped its losing streak and remained unbeaten through its Region XIX DII schedule with a 3-1 road victory at County College of Morris on Thursday evening in New Jersey. The Falcons won by set scores of 25-9, 10-25, 25-17, and 25-14.

Lackawanna (16-8, 6-0) had lost four matches prior to Thursday night's clash, which pitted the two teams that competed for the region title a year ago against each other. Morris (1-10, 0-6) fell flat in the first set, then came out and reversed it on the Falcons in the second set to tie things up at 1-1, but Lackawanna gained the upper hand in sets three and four to secure the win.

The Falcons had double digit kills from two different players, with sophomore Angelique Fuentes (Miami, FL) leading the way at 13 kills and two aces. Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) had 12 kills, 22 digs, and three aces. Nadia Toth (Dalton, PA) added eight kills and eleven digs, and first-year combo Delaney Petri (Delevan, NY) and Neurdia Osias (Huntington Station, NY) had six kills, apiece, to help the Falcons to victory. Sophomore Maddilyn Durfee (Buffalo, NY) set her career-high with 42 assists in the road win.

The Falcons have now won 16 matches, the most since winning 16 in the 2015-2016 season. Lackawanna finished that year at 16-10-1. The next matchup for the Falcons will be in the playoffs, as the top-seeded Falcons will host the Region XIX DII tournament, happening Saturday, November 2nd inside the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium in Scranton.
