DUNMORE, Pa. -- Needing a good performance to get off its three-game slide, Lackawanna College men's soccer played its best game of the year, using three first half goals to blaze past Region XIX opponent Sussex County Community College, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore, PA.
The Falcons (2-3-0) had dropped three straight games, two by one-goal margins, and had managed just two goals in those three games. So, naturally, it was the defense that helped the Falcons come out firing against the Skylanders (2-3-0), scoring three goals in a 20-minute span of the first half to break open what had been a tight contest.
Paul Ribera (First Year; Naples, FL) opened the scoring in the 20
th minute when his head successfully guided the ball into the net on an
Ermir Hoti (First Year; Gjakova, Kosovo) corner kick. The Falcons added a second eleven minutes later, when
Joshua Kalinock (Sophomore; Blakeslee, PA) punched home a rebound after another Falcons corner.
Anthony D'Angelis (Sophomore; Dade City, FL) made it 3-0 in the 38
th minute, heading in a picture-perfect cross from
Sebastian Carmona (First Year; Scranton, PA) to cap off an excellent 20-minute spell for Lackawanna.
Guillermo Ramírez
(First Year; Valencia, Venezuela) scored the fourth and final goal in the 82
nd minute, intercepting a pass at the top of the box and poking the ball home to make it 4-0.
Lackawanna had 14 shots, seven on target, and finished with nine corner kicks, to just three for Sussex County.
Jahdale Givans (Sophomore; Bronx, NY) wasn't called into action too often, but made three saves to keep a clean sheet.
The win for the Falcons snaps a three-game losing streak. Lackawanna is back in action on Saturday, September 23
rd, when they travel to Media, PA to face Delaware County Community College. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET.
