BASE: Falcons Earn A Split Against Florence-Darlington

Lackawanna College Struggled In Its First Game, But Pulled It Together In Game Two To Salvage At Least One Win Against The Stingers

3/5/23

FLORENCE, SC -- Lackawanna College baseball faced off against nationally ranked Division I opponent Florence Darlington Tech for the second day in a row, and, at least for game one, it was more of the same, with the Stingers once again overwhelming the Falcons and pulling ahead for a 12-2 win in six innings. But, the Falcons managed to force a split, picking up a big win in the second game of the doubleheader, 10-5, to keep themselves afloat and at .500 on a Sunday afternoon in Florence, SC.

The Falcons (4-4) got a boost in game two from Ian Murphy (West Deptford, NJ), who had a pair of RBI doubles and a two-run homer to help give the Falcons a boost. Couple that with a solid three -inning start for Keon Burkholder (Williamsport, PA) for the win, and the Falcons got their first win over Florence Darlington in eight tries, dating back to last season's four-game series to open the year.

Florence-Darlington (19-4), ranked #9 in the latest NJCAA DI Baseball rankings, pounded the Division II Falcons in game one, plating seven runs in the last two innings to push what was a 5-1 lead into run-rule territory at 12-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Zachary Walsh (Spring Brook Twp, PA) provided the offense for Lackawanna, hitting a solo homer, while George Castro (Philadelphia, PA) added an RBI-double for the two Falcon runs.

The Falcons have tomorrow off, then get back to work on Tuesday, March 7th, when they travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for a doubleheader on the road against Wake Tech CC. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00pm ET.
