SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College Super Smash Brothers Ultimate remained unbeaten in Team Meta Invitational competition on Thursday night, knocking off Buena Vista University, 2-0.
Â
After not getting a chance to compete last week,
Bikrom Chanda (Gamertag: BA$H) led off the Falcons to start their match-up with Buena Vista. Chanda played as his normal pick, Wii Fit Trainer, and began to make quick work of his BVU opponents. One by one, each player would fall to the aggressive playstyle from Chanda. Chanda ran through his opponents' selections of Sheik, Zelda, and Mythra/Pyra, all without losing any ground, and single-handedly took down each opponent to secure the 1-0 lead.
Â
Going into round two of the best-of-three,
Cayman Ravenell (Gamertag: Cmillith) was up next for Lackawanna College. So far this season, Ravenell has played as Wolf, Incineroar, and Ryu, but, for this match-up, he switched it up once more and brought out Snake. Ravenell's first opponent came out with Zero Suit Samus and attempted to use some zoning techniques in order to gain an upper hand on Ravenell but Snake has his own zoning capabilities, which Ravenell was able to use to keep things close. It was a tight first match, but, ultimately, Ravenell and Snake came out on top and would move on to face the next player from BVU. Next up was Dark Suit Samus, a similar character to his previous opponent. Dark Suit Samus was able to take a few stocks away from Ravenell and Snake, but, with one stock left for each player, Ravenell put the final blow on Dark Suit Samus and knocked out another BVU player.
Â
Because of the Crew Battle rules, Ravenell would have to face the final BVU player with only one stock. Ravenell fought valiantly, but his new opponent Byleth was able to dispatch him in roughly three minutes. That meant that
Xavier Lasenburg (Scranton, PA; Gamertag: lvlX) was coming into the fray for the Falcons. Lasenburg, who normally chooses Ryu as his character of choice, threw everyone for a loop by choosing the character Little Mac. Byleth remained on the battlefield and right away Lasenburg went to work, staying aggressive and using every opportunity to capitalize on his opponent's mistakes. Lasenburg was smashed off the map only once before he would regain control and take down his opponent with a fury of fists from Little Mac. The Lackawanna College Smash trio secured the victory tonight over Buena Vista University with only one player losing their three stocks.
Â
The Falcons remain undefeated in the Team Meta Invitational Crew Battles tournament with a record of 3-0. The Smash squad will be back in action next Wednesday, 3/22 at 6pm ET in their NJCAAE Smash Ultimate solo matchups.
