Kyle Scott Struck Out Ten Batters As Lackawanna College Earned A Win In Their First Game Of 2023

2/18/23

TAZEWELL, Va. -- Lackawanna College baseball earned its first win of the year in impressive fashion, run-ruling the Southwest Virginia CC Soaring Eagles, 12-0, in seven innings on Saturday evening in Virginia.

Kyle Scott (Westminster, MD) took the hill for the Falcons, striking out ten batters and while giving up just two hits and not allowing any runs through five innings of work for the win. The offense gave him plenty of help, putting up five runs with two outs in the second inning, then piling on from there.

The Falcons (1-0) got things going in the top of the second with two outs, when Giovanni Lopez (Olyphant, PA) singled with two on, scoring one, and then reaching all the way to third on an error that brought the other run in for a 2-0 Falcon lead. Lackawanna added another run on an error, then a Christian Rush (Perkasie, PA) triple made it 4-0. Another Falcon hit, this time from freshman Dennis Pierce (Quakertown, PA), made it 5-0 Falcons before the end of the top of the frame.

Lackawanna added two more runs in the fourth to make it 7-0, then tackled on three more in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 10-0. A wild pitch in the seventh scored another Falcon run, and a ground out to short made it 12-0.

After Scott's exit after the bottom of the fifth, Keon Burkholder (Williamsport, PA) came on in relief, pitching two strong innings, allowing two hits and striking out a pair of batters and inducing a ground out to short to end the game.

The Falcons play Southwest Virginia (2-5) again on Sunday afternoon on the road. That game is scheduled for a 12:30pm start, but there is a chance the game is moved back to later in the afternoon.
