SCRANTON, Pa. – With all four of its players competing on Wednesday night, the Lackawanna College Esports Super Smash Brothers Ultimate squad went 3-1 to start the spring 2023 campaign in NJCAAE action.
Â
Xavier Lasenburg (Scranton, PA; Gamertag: lvlX) faced off against a player from Borough of Manhattan Community College,
John Howells (Gamertag: jan) took on an opponent from Atlantic Cape Community College,
Bikrom Chanda (Gamertag: BA$H) and
Cayman Ravenell (Gamertag: Cmillith) each met opponents from Fort Scott Community College.Â
Â
Xavier returned to the program this season bringing out his class Ryu gameplay and faced up against Little Mac and Samus during his best-of-five series. After some brief lobby technical issues, Lasenburg was able to dispatch his opponent during each round of the series and take the 3-0 sweep over his opponent from Manhattan. Howells, who was a member of the SSBU team at Lackawanna before the pandemic, came back to the Falcons for the spring semester and, after some practice with Lasenburg, he switched his play from Young Link to Bowser. Unfortunately, Howells dropped his first match of the year, 3-0, to his opponent from Atlantic Cape CC on Wednesday night, as he still tries to shake off the rust.
Â
Chanda is new to the program this year, and his preferred character is the Wii Fit Trainer. His opponent from Fort Scott chose Link, and Chanda only dropped one round before taking the 3-1 win in his first ever competitive round in the NJCAAE. Ravenell is also a newcomer to the LC Falcons Esports program, and his character of choice is Wolf. Unfortunately, his opponent tonight did not show for the scheduled match time, and Cayman's first round ended with a forfeit win.
Â
The first round of the NJCAAE SSBU regular season was an overall success for the Falcons. LvlX is (1-0), jan is (0-1), BA$H is (1-0), and Cmillith is (1-0). Be sure to stay tuned to the Lackawanna College Esports Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for all upcoming Lackawanna College Esports matchups!
