MBB: Morris Masters Lackawanna With Second Half Shooting

The Visiting Titans Shot 63% In The Second Half To Break Open What Was A Tight Contest

12/12/23

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College languished in the second half while Morris flourished, as the visiting Titans shot 63% after halftime to down the Falcons, 82-65, on Tuesday evening in a Region XIX Division II men's basketball contest at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

The Falcons (5-8, 3-3) managed to make it a tight game and held a slim lead at 34-32 just two-and-a-half minutes into the second half, but a Morris three-pointer gave the Titans the lead back, and they'd never surrender it from there, beating back every comeback effort from Lackawanna. A lay-up from Mason Lawson (Sophomore; Boston, MA) cut the Falcons' deficit to 50-48 with 9:41 to play, but the Titans (12-1, 3-1) hit a killer 19-5 run to break the game wide-open over the next four minutes of game time, with the lead never getting below double-digits the rest of the way.

The Falcons were led by Aamir Mack (Sophomore; Atlantic City, NJ), who had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Niare Poplar (Sophomore; Philadelphia, PA) added 12 points for the Falcons. Lackawanna had 22 turnovers and shot 35.4% from the field, while shooting 4-for-19 from three-point territory.

Morris had four players in double-figures, led by Jonathan Edwards and his 18 points and 13 rebounds. Samir Jordan added 16 points, 15 coming after halftime, and Osaruese Osagie added ten points off the bench.

Lackawanna College will now enter its winter break and be off until the new year, when the Falcons are set to play host to the Sullivan County CC Generals in the second game of a doubleheader on January 11th. Tip is set for 7:00pm ET, with the women's teams set to play first at 5:00pm ET.
