WBB: Union Blasts Lackawanna In Region XIX Opener

The Falcons Committed 46 Turnovers In Their Region XIX Opener Against Their Rivals

11/14/23

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Lackawanna College couldn't withstand the pace from visiting Union County College, as the Owls crossed the century mark on their way to a 104-53 win against the Falcons on Tuesday evening inside the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

The Falcons (0-3, 0-1) scored on a jumper with 6:51 to go in the first quarter to tie the game at five, but would go the rest of the quarter without a point, as Union (2-0, 1-0) went on a 24-0 run to close the quarter. The Owls forced 16 turnovers in the first quarter, and put up 25 points off those turnovers.

That first half margin would only grow as the game went on. Union forced 46 turnovers on the night, with 26 steals, and 50 points off those turnovers, while shooting 43.8% for the game. The Falcons could only muster 38.5% from the field, going just 1-for-11 form the three-point line and 12-for-29 from the free throw stripe.

Union had three players in double-figures, with Khila Morris leading the way at 25 points, five steals, and four assists on 11-for-15 shooting, while Najla Cecunjanin added 17 points and seven rebounds. Lackawanna had two players in double-figures, with Desiree White (First Year; Carlisle, PA) leading the home squad with 16 points and three steals. E'Ternity Aiken (First Year; Wilkes-Barre, PA) added eleven points and nine rebounds, while Saraiah Franklin (First Year; Philadelphia, PA) had nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

Lackawanna will look to bounce back with its next home game, on Thursday, November 16th, when the Falcons are set to host Northampton CC inside the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:00pm ET.
