The Falcons Took Down The Owls To Finish Their NJCAAE Regular Season Slate

10/27/23

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College Esports Rocket League got things done against a fellow Region XIX opponent on Friday evening, knocking off Union County College by a 3-1 margin (5-0, 5-1, 2-3, 5-2) in NJCAAE play.

The Falcons (8-4, 5-1) were led by Matthew Kelly (Gamertag: Jkfoshizzle) and Guadalupe Oca (Gamertag: AyeOca) who each had seven goals and three assists. Jacob Seamans (Gamertag: Jakob) added three goals and a team-high seven assists, as the Falcons put up 17 goals on 47 shots through the contest.

Lackawanna was surgical in the first game, scoring five goals on 14 shots and holding Union to just four shots total on its way to a 5-0 round one victory. Game two was more of the same, as the Falcons scored five more goals on 15 shots, with AyeOca putting up for of them, while Union managed to score a goal, but on just three shots to give Lackawanna a 2-0 advantage.

Game three saw Union put up much more resistance, even taking an early advantage with a goal in the first minute. The Falcons scored back-to-back goals about a minute or two later to take a 2-1 lead, but the Owls tied things up in the final 90 seconds, then took the lead in the last minute for a surprising 3-2 win and forcing a game four.

Within the first few seconds of the fourth round, Lackawanna immediately took a lead. From there, the Falcons clung to a slim advantage before scoring a second to make it 2-0. Union immediately jumped into the fray with a score, but the Falcons followed that up with two more goals to stretch the lead out to 4-1. Union scored 30 seconds later to make it 4-2, but Lackawanna got another not long after to make it 5-2, ending what had been a wild two or three minutes in the middle of the fourth game that saw six goals between the two sides. The Owls challenged, but Lackawanna held firm at 5-2 to win the match, 3-1.

The Falcons Rocket League squad gets back to work next week with playoff action in NACE and NJCAAE play. Schedules will be determined soon, ahead of next week.
